I have and New iPad and my Mom has an iPad 2 - I set her up with facetime from her iPad through her apple ID email address, however i constanely get the connection failed - user unavailable message when I try to facetime her. She's on WiFi at all times, I'm not sure what the issue could be. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
My problem, if anyone can help, is that I used to be able to ft my daughter's father in the UK on his iPhone (I'm in NZ on an iPad). I just have his email address in my contacts. But now it's saying 'user not available' when I try and ft. The same for him when he tries to contact us. I can still ft other people both in NZ and in UK. Trying to sort in 48 hours as planning a birthday call! Thanks.
I had the problem where my wife and I both have iphone 5's and she could facetime me, but I got the user is busy message when I facetimed her. We ended up having to do the trick where we each have our own apple id's for our iMessage and FaceTime accounts, but one shared ID for iTunes and Apps. It's a pain, but once you disassociate iMessage and FaceTime from a common ID it appears to work.
Once we had our own ID's it was simply a matter of going to settings->FaceTime and clicking on 'Apple ID' then selecting 'Sign Out', then just use your new ID.
Again, don't get rid of the common one as you still want to have it associated to iTunes for music and apps, unless of course you want to purchase music and apps two or more times.
I have a different problem, I think.
When I call an iPhone or Ipad from either my iPhone or iPad It does the following;
1. Rings normally
2. When the person "answers" the call they both go yo "connecting".
3. Nothing else ever happens... No connection, no anything...
Ideas?
I got an iPad for Christmas a couple years ago, and used my AppleID for FaceTime. I'm a Freshman in college now, so I got a Macbook for school. My username for both my iPad and Macbook Facetime is the same, and I want to facetime my parents, but it won't let me. Can anyone help?
An idea borne out of my recent experience:
Check if you passed on your old device to your mum, dad, nephew whatever, and in the setup, you may have used your own Apple ID on the device you are giving them.
Also you might find that their email address -which is how you FaceTime them - might be linked to your own Apple ID .
Ours got completely tangled up in this way, but the problems did not emerge until my mum went back - with my old iPad - to Australia. While we were all together in the same house to test it, everything worked fine!
I had the same problem and I've just realize what it was. I was calling my mom's apple id however I have set her email in the phone box instead of email boxes. It was hard to realize because sometimes it worked and sometimes not.
I solved the problem by adding the apple id (email address) to my contacts. Note that if only one party has added the email address then only they will be able to call via Facetime. Many thanks to all who suggested it.
I found another fix!: some friends have a + sign in their phone number listed in FaceTime Settings (for example, +1(213)xxx-xxxx). If they have the plus sign, you *must* have a + sign in your contacts also, in order to connect to the phone number correctly.
This article was extremely helpful:
I cannot call my husbands iPhone 4 on FaceTime and vice versa. On my MBP, it says he is not available for FaceTime. On his phone it says FaceTime failed. I'm lost! Any help please?
My partner and I both have iPhone 4 and even in the same room and both on wifi, he can call me, but I cannot call him. I keep getting that he is not available for FaceTime
The user is on wifi. It also failed when i tried calling someone that was using the iphone
