Ext4 support for Macbook / OS X
Hello,
I would like to know if there is a plan for Apple to support ext4 (or even ext3) in OS X? I really would like to be able to read/write a ext4 partition from my macbook pro.
Thank you

Not likely. However, you could install Linux on a separate partition.
Hi Kappy,
That's exactly what I need it for. I would like a common partition to place my documents, so I could access them whether on Linux or Mac.
Thanks
You could use a FAT32 formatted partition. Both OS X and Linux can read/write that format. If your hard drive is partitioned using GUID, then you can resize an existing partition and make a new one to use for file moving. Format the new volume MSDOS (FAT32.)
The main drawback of this is when you copy OS X documents to the volume. FAT volumes strip a file's Resource fork creating two files on the FAT volume - the file and the file's Resource fork. This will create some problems with some files - they may become unreadable or lose formatting. To avoid such a problem zip the files before putting them on the volume. A bit of a hassle, but will generally prevent problems from the different filesystems.
No way... 😟
FAT32 doesn't allow me to:
- Store file owner and POSIX file permissions;
- Differentiate case-sensitive filenames;
- Create Hard or Symbolic links;
- Not to mention the FS design;

FAT32 + zip/tarball solution: I need a reasonable-file-seek solution; So, not comfortable w/ using that approach;
Thanks

PS: I found this commercial solution: http://www.paragon-software.com/home/extfs-mac/
I forgot about them. They also have a similar solution for NTFS.
