Can I make speech bubbles in iMovie 11?
In terms of a simple effect, I do not believe there is one built in. However, if you would like to try something complex to get this to work, you can create the bubble as an image using another photo editing program such as photoshop and then then use the picture in picture feature to try and add a speech bubble. Although it is a lot of work for a small effect so if it isn't necessary for your project it probably isn't worth it.

An Apple Store suggested one solution would be to insert the image in Keynote, add in your bubbles, etc and "Export" as a jpg or I did a TIFF to get maximum resolution. Insert into to your iMovie 11 by dragging from the FInder direct into your Project. Worked for me just fine. When creating the Keynote slide, first adjust in "Inspector" that the background be "Image Fill" and "Scale to Fill".
