Is there a tool like the "Snip" Tool available for Windows 2007?

Hmm interesting thread. I am from the windows world and not ashamed of it. I recently bought and IMac and love it but there are tricks to be learned. And how to grab a chuck of screen is one of them. Thanks to all the helpful replies!

OK, I followed the advice, and at first I was asked if I wanted to save in my Dropbox, and I replied "yes", but my Dropbox is now full and I can't access the screenshots. Can you tell me how to change the folder association to save to desktop?

It's funny that there are multiple ways to grab a screenshot on a Mac (Grab & the shortcuts) and none of them let you add basic annotations like the Windows snipping tool does.

The Grab tool would be justified as an alternative to the shortcuts if it did that. Maybe it does and I'm missing something. I hope so.

Open the screenshot in Preview and annotate to your hearts content.

So far so good, BUT how on earth it does not allow me to copy it onto the clipboard? I used both grab tool and and the cmd+shift+4, but neither is directly letting me to copy onto the clipboard directly. In order to have it copied onto my clipboard so that I could place it into the Word document, I have to open the snipped picture from the desktop, then go to edit->copy.

No one has answered the question!!! NO ONE! Except IF wemweb suggestion for the Snip Apple App does everything that the Snip Tool for Windows does, which is:

* from the moment you open the application (speaking about windows snip tool) you can select the area you want to capture

* RIGHT there, you have the option of highlight text, the most frequently USED modification action

* The image is already saved in clipboard to paste anywhere, without having to save, rename, edit, preview or any time consuming annoyng steps...

All of the above are CONTINOUSLY used steps when writing e-mails all day at several work environments. If you can't do this in your Mac, then less points for ya!

Yes, commenting on a 2 year old thread with the last entry 7 months ago, is great. The fact is that these forums are for Mac users using Apple devices. And, it has nothing to do with "connoisseurs".

Thanks for the help, one thing is copy an entire application window, other think is have grab cutting the exactly portion of what we need, doing the same as snipping tool for windows.

Thanks! I wasn't aware that when holding CNTL it will just copy to your clipboard. I was always just doing cmd, shift, 3 and I didn't like all the extra clips on my desktop. Here I was ready to buy an app - this is exactly what I was looking for.

More importantly, they do not automatically save them to the clipboard. That is an important function of Snipping tool.

Grab the shot i want, pop over to an email and immediately paste it. Macs tool, I have to grab it, then go to the place it auto saves to, open it up, then copy it. Waste of time.

Since screenshots are by default saved to the desktop, there is no need to open anything or copy it for that matter. You can simply drag the screenshot into an email and you're done. Less waste of time.
