ImageCaptureCore error -9931.

When trying to use my HP OfficeJet 6500A Plus I get an error (com.apple.ImageCaptureCore -9931.) It can't scan. Also, after taking a screen shot, I can't view it in Preview. Basically, preview is not working. Anyone know how to fix it?

Had same problem with MacBookPro; OSX 10.7.5; Epson XP-212 connected using USB. I zapped the Parameter Ram and deselected Custom size. The scanner works now!
