Go to the Documents Tab of the Inspector and uncheck Footer.
Usually you can just click in the footer area and delete whatever is there. If you want to remove usage of headers or footers all together, in Pages:
I've also found out that to totally remove the footer or header and keep them from using space on the page, you should reduce the footer or header size to 0 first, then uncheck Footer.
Doug Evans, they don'y use space as they by default are placed on the margins of the document. Unchecking does suffice.
Yes, Jerry, that can happen when you customise you pages.

As I explained here several times, the value defined thru the Inspector isn't the footer/header size. It's its offset from the bottom/top of the printing area.
