Firewire Charging on New iPod Classic?

Am looking for a definitive answer on whether a new iPod Classic (current generation) is able to be charged (not synced) via firewire.

I have an older iPod (photo) which I need to replace in my car (semi-permanent installation), and the car manufacturer's proprietary cable for accessing iPod content will only charge the iPod via the firewire pin out. I realize I could purchase an additional adapter (scosche), but I was hoping that the iPad Classic line still had the charging capability through firewire.

I realize iPods in general had firewire charging removed, but the site 'everyipod.com' (as well as wikipedia)

indicates that the classic line still supports "charge only" ???

The removal of FireWire capability is still the most annoying downgrade of any change made to the iPod classic, particularly for users who have a lot of music. Each time I buy a new iPod (I'm on my 4th) it takes like four hours to get all my music transferred via USB. Lame.

I don't think that's correct. There were howls of pain from the user base when this happened -- many car charger accessories for a 5th generation iPod (and earlier) will not charge a 6th generation iPod (when the "Classic" moniker was first used by Apple). A current Classic iPod may sync over Firewire, but it won't charge.

so, out of necessity, I bought a new iPod Classic anyway, and I'm happy to report that, yes, it will charge while connected via FireWire - no sync, but it does charge. No need for additional adapters!

Firewire charging was removed from iPods a few years back, as evidenced by the number of users who had to update accessories that were designed to use 12V to charge via Firewire.
