Open System Preferences.
Click on "International"
Under "Languages": Drag any of the other languages to the top,
then drag English back to the top.
Set "Order for sorted lists" to English
Set "Word Break" to English (United States, computer)
Close System Preferences
Restart computer

what what what what what!?!
I really don't get it but that fix just worked on an 8-core, Macbook Pro and a Mini that all had the issue.

I'm dumbfounbded on several levels... why it works makes no sense at all, but how could you possibly figure that out? Blown away is all I can say... totally amazed...

this person is a brilliant one, I did this and this worked for me. A simple cleaning with a glasses cloth and a credit card did the trick. I also change it from English and back as recommended, but I think the cleaning may have been the fix, but both was done. I live 240 miles from the nearest apple repair so this solution is the best for those who live in rural areas like I do in bush Alaska. Thank you very much for posting.
