CD / DVD Drives Vanished

When ever i install iTunes for my Windows XP [IMEDIA 3084] My CD / DVD Drives Vanish and then i can no longer get them to work, i've tried uninstalling them then restarting the computer and a few people have VNC'd my computer to try and solve the problem, but yet still no luck..

When ever i reformat [Destructive or non Destructive] There back untill i install itunes, now can someone please tell me how on gods green earth am i supposed to put music on 2 ipod nano's and an ipod mini.

Any help would be greatly appriciated..

I need more information about your hardware configuration. Run the iTunes Help menu -> Run CD Diagnostics... command and post the results here.

This is usually a problem with the Upper / Lower Filters in your registry and, if so, easily fixed.

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY LOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY LOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK
