I just wanted to sync some **** text files across some devices (Calendar, Address Book, etc.). I don't care to play video games on a device with no haptic feedback. I play games on proper games hardware.

My issue is that all I wanted from Apple was a means of performing this simple sync function - I understand that the graphics chipset is not up to it for displaying high-end 3D. I don't care. I just want to be able to sync some text files and it's a joke that Apple have killed my product by not supporting it in their latest OS updates for iOS and for desktops. So they try to make me continue bloating my Apple defunct hardware product collection.

It's simply bad OS design and bad strategy on Apple's part. Having been a long-term (25 years?) Apple user I now use non-Apple hardware.

FAIL.

I don't care about the MC3...all am saying is that a program can come in another version which called Lite that will enable it to run on a minimum capacity of a device, it doesn't mean all features will work but it will bring up the device up-to-date...so latest apps can work on the device!...sometime if i want to install app from iTunes it won't tell anything MC3 it will only tells me to upgrade to iOS 4.3 or latest version which mean i might not even need to change from one OS to another just ordinary update some set of files from the server we do.

like what Ezppl says it's simply bad OS design and bad strategy. Failed!!!

Aaargh! My point is that iCloud is not at its core such a big deal. It is basically just synching media across different devices.

The bottom line is this: it is wrong that I cannot sync my media, Address Book and iCal data with my device unless I buy a new computer and a new device. I'm all done discussing it. Thanks.

Its common knowledge that Apple has decided to focus on developing the most sophisticated electronics possible and staying at the head of the technological market, with the understanding that its customers are willing to sacrifice long-term support in order to have "the best thing there currently is". By purchessing an apple product, you have (apparently unknowingly for some here) endorsed/accepted this trade-off. You were happy with the best when it was still the best, but the reason you got such a nifty gadget way-back-when is because all the people with 2 year old devices (at the time) were no longer recieving support. Keeping up to date with apple is and should be expensive. If it wasn't, it's because some other company is selling the top end equipment. Don't buy apple if you can't afford it, and stop complaining that you can't run some new app that probably just does some pointless but really cool thing with you desktop theme.

an aside: there's usually an unofficial way of implementing certain features on your outdated equipment...

I understand and accept the concept of evolving technology and Apple’s desire to move forward. I “get” that my 2nd Gen will not be able to run the newest apps for varied reasons (be it hardware, software, marketing, etc.).

My issue is when I update apps that I already have installed (and are working fine), the app disappears from my device and all data is lost. “Rolling-back” to a previous version is not a concept that Apple subscribes to.

If I can get a pop-up box to warn me that my bartender app has material not suited for minors, why can’t I get a pop-up box that lets me know I’m about to upgrade the app beyond my devices capabilities? Or better yet, NOT UPDATE when the hardware can’t handle it. The update program is “smart enough” not to install the non-compatible version so why can’t it just reinstall the older, functioning version before it quits the sync?

Companies have gone to a lot of trouble to make software user-friendly, esp. Apple who basically pride themselves on being accessible to the computer illiterate. They have turned the “Update All” button into a game of Russian Roulette… which app will die this time?

“Download All Free Updates” may just as well be rebranded as the “Do I feel lucky? (Well, do ya, punk?)” button.

i find it funny that the users on here tell us to stop complaining or stop being cheap.

take a second to get off your horse and see things from our eyes.

we have perfect working ipods we have many apps we use daily or seldom, regardless they work fine the ipod works fine.

we connect to itunes or hit the updateall button on our ipods or **** even our kids by accident.

now guess what our ipod that we use to play games, read books, help kill time etc.. no longer work for these uses.

suddenly the apps are gone . why? because the developers upgraded the apps to handle the new os's

i find it pretty hard to belive apple in his allmighty all knowing power cannot set a feature that stops the program from updating to a non compatible version.

now i like the rest of the others have a ipod that simply plays music. no more games ,no more tools that i used for work. simply aggravated with the whole siutation

but its easy for everyone else to say stop crying go spend another $300.00

i just find it hard that with the push of a button we lose all features of our ipods the reason we bought the itouches for the ability to do more than just listen to music.

dont no i dont give a **** about grammar on here im not here to show off for you just state my argument.

I use my 2nd gen itouch for everything (games, music, keeping in touch with friends around the world via chat apps) but I've already had to delete a couple apps because the updates require iOS 4.3 or higher.😢

You'd think that apple would offer an incentive for owners to upgrade from 2nd gen... like trade in working 2nd gens for 3rd, 4th, or 5th gen upgrade and we pay the difference in price (I paid $99 to replace my 2nd gen last year) but as it stands if you upgrade you only get 10% off if you recycle your 2nd gen (but only at the apple store.) 😐

Well I guess it was nice well it lasted 😟 but soon I'll be left with a gloried mp3 player. This whole deal has left me feeling like I wasted my money by replacing something that they weren't going to continue to support 😕

So you cant update the 2nd Generation ipod touch anymore?
