Import titles to iTunes - Slow

Hi everyone.

I have the same problem in itunes sine a few weeks (since iTunes 10.2.2 i guess). I even reinstalled Mac OS X 10.6.7. Now i have found the problem: iTunes home sharing. If it is ACTIVATED iTunes is so so so slow !!! (Even if no device uses the home sharing over LAN) . If home sharing is DEACTIVATED everything is fast as usual.

Can someone try this and agree my presumption??? Please!

Well, I did as you said but it didn't change anything for me. iTunes is still very slow when it comes to import files :'(

are you sure that you deactivate homesharing (Register Advanced -> Turn On/OFF Home Sharing) and not the sharing in the options of iTunes ???

Getting the same problem. Adding even one mp3 sends itunes into a near freeze. Sometimes they finally get imported, sometimes I have to force quit.

2011 15" Macbook Pro 10.6.7, itunes 10.2.2

I have Last.fm scrobbler and sizzling keys for itunes installed...

Personally, I find the LAME mp3 encoder much better than iTunes, so I use various front-ends for that rather than iTunes. Faster, better quality encoding, and a lot more features.

There are several programs like that, I just find Max works fairly well and stuck with it.

This problem isnt simply a slow mp3 encoding issue,

I'm getting the same freeze for every import into itunes,

ie dragging an mp3 into itunes causes the freeze.

really wish i didn't install the last upgrade to 10.2.2. I've tried to import 17 mp3 tracks, and the Pinwheel spins for what seems like an eternity. It's almost as if it is frozen. Went ahead and took a nap for 2 hours, when i came back, it was finally done doing its thing.. at first i thought the external drive that my library is on was malfunctioning. but after some troubleshooting, i am 100% certain my drive is in perfect working order. Importing tracks to itunes library is a basic function, this problem should not have been overlooked. Apple please update soon! or at least make 10.2.1 available somewhere for downgrade until update is released. i beg you please, my wasted time is not appreciated.

The problem is definitely 10.2.2, I just fixed it by downgrading to 10.2.1.

Super fast importing now, no freezes.

Use time machine to restore itunes to its previous version until Apple fixes this mess.

Saaaaame here! Fix this Apple. Each song takes about 15 seconds to import. It's really annoying.

+1, same here. I usually import files by dragging them from Finder onto iTunes and it takes forever. Apple has been very sloppy with their updates recently anyways. I remeber the new iLife which made iPhoto like half as fast and still no bugfix. This is really annoying...

Got to agree - I'm having the same problem.

It seems like ANY change to the databse causes iTunes to hang for me.

Playing existing tracks is fine

Accessing iTunes store - no problem.

Adding a new track, exporting playlists etc etc - the program crashes.

This needs sorting out if we are to have confidence in any future software upgrades etc

Same problem here- does anyone have the 10.2.1 installer? I don't have the time machine magic

Are we unique? Or is every user of iTunes having it take 1+ min to import 1 mp3? My library is big....

Since APPLE is not fixing this serious bug, just downgrade to 10.2.1 and be happy with it.
