You could always go and buy a Blackberry Playbook. That does Flash!

Mind you, it doesn't allow you to do email, contacts or calendar from the device, I bet RIM don't tell anyone that in their advertising.

I for one am more than happy to be without Flash. It is outdated, power and processor intensive and destroys battery life on portable devices. HTML5 is a much better option, as well as being open source it is a far more efficient medium. It is worth mentioning that over half of video content on the web is now HMTL5 (53%) at the last count. Flash is on the way out.

Jason

Jason,

I feel sorry for you. First of all, 53% is a rediculous number which you can't prove. It is also worth mentioning that all the content you say is HTML5 is actually provided in both Flash and HTML5 formats, just to cover iOS. Web developers are forced to do twice the work thanks to iOS. We used to complain about Internet Explorer, now we complain about iOS.

Check out these stats ( http://flowingdata.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Flash-vs-HTML5-625x1483.jpg ), and you will see why you are just being rediculous. It's real easy to talk down on things, especially when you don't have to prove anything. I work in this area, and can tell you one thing. Flash is not on it's way out. You talk about Flash like it has never done anything for you. Like it insulted your mother or something, but really you are the only insulting your mother by moving your little fingers on the keyboard.

We've all been watching videos with the flash player for 10 years. It would have been a depressing internet without it. Hmmm youtube ring a bell? Remember quicktime videos. Wow, that was pretty crappy to watch videos on. I wonder what happened to it. Oh yeah. Flash and Flash developers happened to it. You think Steve Jobs might be a little upset after Flash crushed Quicktime and all the money they spent on it went down the tubes.

If you are a real American, you know freedom of choice is important. If you work at Apple, you know if you give people the choice, they choose Flash. No amount of talk will prove otherwise. I wish people could choose to use Flash or not, however Steve Jobs has already made that choice for all iOS users.

How long will that decision last once he's gone. I guess we'll see.

If you read the actual blog post from here...

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/09/14/metro-style-browsing-and-plug-in-f ree-html5.aspx

... you will see that this is a plugin free browser....which doesn't just mean flash, but all plugins....and of course.....if you haven't noticed.....people like plugins....plugins are good.....plugins are a part of software development....and this is a good thing...unless of course you like hating things for someone else's reasons.

1. We all know IE ***** and has sucked for years.

2. Does anyone own a windows tablet?

Anyway...good looking out tonefox....you spotted some more morons selling things to even bigger morons. Reminds me of ipads, which if you look at the stats are for old people, not the youth like you would think.

If it costs twice as much to develop something because you have to make it for everything and then make it for iOS too, only half as many products are made. Reminds me of fuel prices. So many sad things going on here.

What everyone seems to forget, is what makes the web go around. Well, that's ads. The only reason you watch videos on youtube, is because they are making money hand over fist on advertisements.

3. Can you put an ad in an HTML5 video tag?

4. Can an HTML5 Tag do peer to peer?

5. Can an HTML5 Tag allow to to play a game on any operating system and you only have to write the code once?

6. Can an HTML5 Tag do VOIP?

Let me know. Oh wait....I'm probably the only developer reading this trash. I was just really bored. Don't forget why macs used to run faster than pc's. They had hardware and software made specifically for each other. They don't anymore. But boy do they have great marketing.

7. Can't we all just get along?

Also don't forget why I have a apple.com username and password. I own apple computers too!

I like freedom!

I see the general point you are making and I believe it has merit. But the point of this thread I believe is specifically about the iPad and about flash.

Tonefox has then also a very valid point.

Jack2011,

You are wrong. The flash player is compatible with iOS however it has been banned by one man and one man alone. Read why here....

http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/

From this post Steve Jobs gives 6 reasons, none of them being "not compatible"...

1. Flash is not open.

Niether is iOS. In fact, it's less open. In order to submit an app to the apple store, I have to pay them $100 dollars. So wrong. Why do the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer. Hmmm

2. Full Web

It's true, iOS devices cannot access the full web. This means stuff on the web that uses the flash player. Too bad every other device can, but that wouldn't stop people from talking trash.

3. Reliability/Security/Performance

It's true. Flash has had some security problems, which they always fix at a rapid pace. However, the Flash Player is reliable, and it performs. Steve Jobs blames it for crashing macs. "Flash is the number one reason Macs crash." We all know that lies are bad. I could make something in any programming language that could crash a mac in no time. It would probably be easier in Objective C, the language of iOS. Bad programming can make anything crash. Don't blame it on something else.

4. Battery Life

This only has to do with decoding H.264 video. Read it. This is a very small part of peoples web experience. If you are on a plane or something where you want long battery life, you aren't streaming video to a flash player. You are playing video from your hard drive.

5. Touch

Steve says Flash doesn't do touch. Again. Lies are bad. Steve, don't lie.

6. The most important reason

Flash is closed and propietary. Ok. true, but so it iOS. At least I don't have to pay a rich company $100 to even try and make an app for them to sell, which they will take a bigger cut than anyone else. Steve talks trash on third-party libraries, which if you are a developer or a techy business man you would know these are amazing, and save you time and money. Imagine, making an app in 3D without knowing all the 3D math, and you will immediately see the benefit of third party libaries. Of course, like any drug, they can be overdone. Ever heard of Farmville. Zynga, the leader in game theft, has overdone this and their crappy facebook games are the reason why Steve says Flash crashes macs.

Steve jobs is a crook and has been a crook since day one. He is an ego maniac, who, in his first business deal at Apple ripped off his first partner, and has continued to rip off the universe ever since.

Apple has never invented anything. Well except Quicktime RIP. They didn't invent the MP3 player. They didn't invent the personal computer. They didn't invent the mouse, the GUI, or anything. Except quicktime RIP.

"At the time, Jobs told Wozniak that Atari had only given them $700 (instead of the actual $5000) and that Wozniak's share was thus $350."

My first computer>>>>>>>Apple IIGS

What a joke.

I get the impression that rightly or wrongly you want to give SJ a bash.

1. It is a fact, flash is not open. iOS might not be either but I'm sure Adobe used the argument as a stick to beat Apple with. That makes their argument without merit. SJ never stated that iOS was open, I've seen somewhere that Adobe suggested flash was.

2. See my previous post.

3. Flash is a serious resource hog on Macs. Fact. HTML5 doesn't crash Macs nearly as often, could it be that Flash is badly written ?

4. Steve mentioned being on a plane?

5. Flash does not at present work fully on Touch. Fact. Not lie. Given how flash often takes advantage of cursor position I doubt it ever will.

6. You'll need to prove this with words I'm afraid. But dang lets move on already.
