It is not impossible. Mplayer and VLC are my two favorites. Both are open source and cross-platform which is something I support. Actually, I prefer HTML5. However, my issue is with Apple's advertising when, in reality, the iPad falls short, especially when it first came out. If Apple had been truthful, I would have bought a MacBook Pro, not an iPad.

I'm in my 60s. Never in the history of Apple did you have to "research" their products. Apple was as good as its word. When they said they would give you something it wasn't an exaggeration. I just hate to see Apple using Microsoft tactics and I am old enough to know.

You're a whippersnapper and you probably don't realize that "way back when," Apple computers and the files on those computers played with NO ONE! An Apple-I or Apple-II or Lisa or Mac word processing document wasn't readable on ANY OTHER brand of computer. Period.

Of course, you are correct in that no research was necessary because there was NO inter-vendor compatibility. None, nada, zilch, bupkis, nothing.

Now, ONE of the Apple products (actually one series of products) doesn't play with ONE piece of Internet software produced by ONE other developer. No big deal.

No, you obviously don't, but you are old enough to know better. I am a good twenty years younger than you are but I have been here from the beginning. I know the company well. There are no Micrsoft tactics going on here. Apple has never been dishonest or secretive about the iPad and what it could or could not do. So if there was something about it that you did not realize about it and its capabilities, that is on you.

Please, do not try pulling the age card on us, or it can backfire. I will refrain from making insulting comments that also involve age and allow you to gracefully retreat.

It's no secret that I would be happier if the iPad supported Flash but it doesn't and it never will. I'm adult enough to accept reality. I simply use my computer on those occasions when I really need the content being supplied via Flash.

I think the point bk452 is making is that one would assume a multimedia tablet that kind of says, "It can do anything" would have supported Flash because of it's prevalence on the web. Being in technology for many years, I expected it. But I'd heard enough about it to ask.

My parents would simply have been bewildered at why some web pages would work. Don't forget, a large portion of people hit a web page, and just want it to work. They don't know or care that some of it is Flash, some of it is Qucktime, another is written in HTML breaking most standards, and yet another in perfect HTML5.

Anyway, I never did get a response if anyone had used any of the Flash work around on the iPad? Any preferences?

I personally believe that that represents a large majority of web users. They never even heard of Flash until they received the dreaded message.

Don't VLC and Mplayer use the Flash components made by Adobe to view it? I installed something that does that in QuickTime Player.

No offense, but you should have suspected that the iPad would not support Flash since iOS never did. There was a possibility that they would, but it got shut down.
