iChat vs. Yahoo Messenger
I have been using Yahoo Messenger to Video chat with a friend on a PC. The picture quality is much better than AIM, and I don't care about the lack of audio.
I gave my friend my old Powerbook Ti/1.0 and got a new HD model so we are trying out iChat AV now. I am past all of the router issues, and we are able to use iChat pretty well for audio and video.
My question is that the video in Yahoo is much clearer (when using Yahoo's Super mode), but the frame rate is pretty low (1-2 fps?). iChat has a much better frame rate, but the resolution is WAY lower.
For me, the video quality of Yahoo outweighs the high frame rate of iChat.
Is there any way to trade off some of the high frame rate in iChat for a higher resolution picture? The difference is VERY dramatic...
I really want to use iChat, but I find myself being drawn to Yahoo for the pristine picture...
Everyone else I read about says Yahoo is terrible, and I wonder if they don't have "super mode" working (which take a router config to pass through port 5100/tcp). Maybe they can't get past the lack of audio, but for me, the pictures is more important.
Anyone have comments or suggestions?
