Take a photo with my iPhone 4S and email it. The email arrives with the photo upside down on my MacBook Pro.
Are you accessing the email account via webmail using a browser, with Apple's Mail.app, or with a non-Apple email client?
On the MacBook Pro, the photo arrives upside down on both Firefox and Safari. On my own iPhone, the photo arrived rightside up using Mail.
Should have said that in Safari and Firefox, I'm using Yahoo Mail.
I venture to say if you were accessing the email account with the Mail.apo on your Mac, there wouldn't be a problem, and there is no problem after downloading/saving the photo on your computer. This means the photo orientation is included with the photo's EXIF data and Yahoo's incoming mail server ignores or doesn't recognize this.
You're right! I fired up Mail on my MacBook and checked the message and it's rightside up. So, the problem seems (like so much in life) to be with Yahoo.
The problem is not with anyone. In order to read "orientation file extension", you need to use software that reads it. Inside of the browser there is no such software. That capability is inside of Mac Mail or Windows live Photo Gallery or other programs. There are different programs that allow to read pictures, not all of them have ability to read file extensions, nor do they guarantee them. Some of those programs do not read it and don't have to cause they are good in something else. When you choose what to use on your computer, you just need to take in consideration what works for you.
I'm having this same problem all the time. I have noticed one thing is that when I send a photo in an email from my iphone 4 is that it puts it in the email but not as an attachement. If I send the same photo using my PC it puts it as an attachment. I wonder is it possible to send photos as an attachment on my phone.
