Macbook Pro Freezes Right After Startup.

As soon as I start up my mbp, it askes me to login and then shows me my desktop, but it gives me the color wheel and then it freezes up. Any thoughts? This is really annoying me, I have tried to hard reboot it many times, but to no avail and i have reset the pram, but none of this works. any suggestions?

Try restarting and hold the Shift key down immediately. Keep it held down through the whole startup process. It will take much longer to startup, but that's normal. That will startup the computer in Safe Boot mode and may help. Restart again (hoping you can get to the Apple menu and tell it to restart normally) and see if a normal startup (no Shift key) happens this time.

The Safe Boot clears out cache files that can get corrupt and cause problems.

If you do have luck getting to a useful desktop in Safe Boot, but still no love with a regular startup, I recommend re-applying the 10.6.7 combo updater.

That occured while booted from the disc? You should take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP. Whichever is more convenient for you.

I am taking it in on monday, thanks for the advice. I am also currently making a backup of the entire harddrive using disk utility. hopefully it will work. I bet the hard drive is about to give or is corrupted. Because i was once able to reinstall the software, however after the 40 min install it said it couldn't be completed, so i bet it has to do with the HD.
