connect minidv to hdmi

I just purchased a minidv/HDMI cable to connect my MBP to a Samsung TV I have the HDMI connected to HDMI 4 port and nothing appears on the screen. Do I need to change a setting on my MBP to get the TV to accept the signal from my MBP? Help.

MacBook Pros either had standard DVI, or mini-DisplayPort connectors depending on their version.

They hever had mini-DV. You are probably using the wrong cable, and hopefully not damaging your Mac if you are.

To determine which port you are using look at the side of your Mac's ports.

The first image is of mini-Displayport.

The image below is of DVI.

Which display connector is on your Mac?

Make sure the on TV menu has the correct HDMI port labeled. Use a magnifying glass on the HDMI port to verify its number, and make sure it corresponds with the one on the menu as the one being selected on the on screen menu. If it does, and you are sure it is plugged in all the way, it may be you have a faulty DisplayPort HDMI adapter if all you are getting is a blank screen, and Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays recognizes the second display as being selected. You may need to on the computer's setup change one of the Options in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays.

OK, in the upper right corner of my MBP there is an icon to select monitors. I have two choices with 3 choices underneath. 1st Choice is COLOR LCD with the following options 1024x640, 1024x768 and 1440x900 (which has a checkmark next to it). 2nd Choice is SAMSUNG with the following options to choose 1080p (Television), 1080i (Television) and this one has the check mark next to it and last choice is 1080p (Television). Still no signal being received on my Samsung TV.

Not sure what you mean by "sufficient"? Is it as simple as connecting the cable from the MBP to the TV and I should get a picture on the TV? The icon in the upper right corner does not display the SAMSUNG when I disconnect the cable so I think there is a connection between my MBP and SAMSUNG TV but I cannot seem to get the screen to display on the tv. What should I look for in the APPLE MENU>System preferences>displays?
