I just purchased a minidv/HDMI cable to connect my MBP to a Samsung TV I have the HDMI connected to HDMI 4 port and nothing appears on the screen. Do I need to change a setting on my MBP to get the TV to accept the signal from my MBP? Help.

It looks like a VGA connector on the back of a computer. Some tvs list them as d-sub.

You get neither sound, nor a digital picture, nor likely any widescreen resolutions. Why would you want to reduce your options? If you have the capabiity, why not use it?

Connect the TV to the MBP using the Mini-displayport-to-HDMI adapter/cable. Press Command+F1 on the computer's keyboard. Does that change anything on the TV set?

Brody you dont lose any of the resoultion from a d sub connector, plus you can also use a AUX cable to get sound. I use mine with my Vizio tv all the time and get full 1080p from my dsub
OK, so I have my MBP connected to my SAMSUNG TV via the mini Display port on the computer to the HDMI connection on my TV. How do I get the MBP screen to appear on the TV?
JLS99 ..... have you changed the input source on the TV to HDMI 4 (or which ever port it is you have connected to)?
Yes, I change the input source to the 4th availabe HDMI slot (it was the slot my Blue Ray player was connected to previously so I unplugged by Blue Ray player and plugged in the MBP.

Dude, I'm having the SAME problem! Well, not exactly... mine's worse! My 2010 macbook isn't even recognizing that it's even plugged into my 2010 1080p LG 😟 (using the same mini-display to HDMI). Won't detect display, TV says no signal.
I'd all but assume it just came broken in the mail (supposed to be "new"), except that when I connect the macbook and tv (which is connected to some external speakers) at the same time that my computer is connected to the same external speakers (basically the computer is outputting audio twice to one recipient), it buzzes which means the mini-display > hdmi cable is sending some sort of signal... ugh, weird!
I tried every instruction on this thread and on every other thread I've found similar situations. I haven't found another post with the same exact situation as mine.
So ya I'm like incredibly frustrated.
No wonder I couldn't get the TV to display the MBP screen. The **** cable I purchased had a defect. I took it back to the Apple store yesterday and exchanged it for a new cable and wouldn't you know it, IT WORKED. Can't believe I picked the one bad cable out of the 10 on the shelf but I did. So I now have my MBP screen displayed on my TV. THanks guys.
