Including 'playback pre roll' in bounce in Logic Pro 9

Hello Anyone,

LOGIC PRO 9.1.3.

MBP 2010

So, i have this track that has guitarwash at the beginning and a kinda sweet-o-matic preroll-

i found, thru lots of searching and trial and error

that i have the 'Playback preroll ' box ticked in the settings>audio.

And it doesn't get bounced down that way 😢

Ok, so if i turn it off the track starts with a horrid clickbump and no woosh at the start

(only a microsek or so, but it's nice -you know?)

I tried fading all the files in slightly which is ok but i've lost that nice wooshyness.

I tried bouncing in realtime and no overload protection etc with the box ticked, but no, got just an abrupt start.

I tried changing the 'start' numbers and green loop locator but still no no.

Any one got any ideas how to get this kinda 'preroll' with reverb/delay or anything?

tried a reverb with 'pre delay' on the output strip but i can't seem to get it right and anyway,

one gets a load of actual reverb...uhumm.

Is there a way of figuring out what the mcs of the built in 'preroll' is

so i can somehow program it...somehow?

Is this (just a sad fact of life)- gunna be a matter of wiretapping my own song?

(like in the old days when we recorded stuff from the speakers

back on to the 4th tapetrack?!)

Thanks in advance

Easiest way to get pre-roll data included in your bounce is to alter the beginning of your region in the sample editor. Select the region, open sample editor. Drag the white arrow (in the region section at the bottom of the sample editor) to the left until you have the portion of the pre-roll you want. Close Sample Editor. Go to the Arrange window and drag your region so that it is contained after your project start marker, or you can move the project start marker itself to the left so that your region(s) is contained after it. Hey teedoff087,

Thanks for this,

and sorry for late reply i kept checking my list of questions (new to this forum thing)

but i didn't see that i had a reply until i clicked on my question out of curiosity.

So - i have yet to master the sample editor,

so this will get me in there!

Uhuh, the dragging the project start marker itself to the left is the first thing i tried and it doesn't seem to

work - but then my bounce window does seems rather temperamental -

(like i change the project start numbers to fit the project start marker i saved in the arrange window

and it goes back to another number or the 1111 when i click ok to bounce.

Same thing when i have a normal start that starts at 1111, the bounce window

box sometimes has random start numbers that take about 3 or 4 goes to set at 1111 after pressing return or clicking on background or end number box.)

But i'm going to try the sample editor thingy now and get back.

Thank you for fotos too - really helpful.

O and do i click "helpful answer" and then "correct answer" later if it is? Or just wait and see?! I wouldn't want you to be stuck with "helpful answer" if it was correct and you could get more points...

Ok, so i have had a go.

I may have done it but here's the thing -

only about 4 trks have that preroll leadup...

only a couple of them, when doubleclicked on

open in the sample editor with the coloured bar at the bottom with a white arrow and some grey space b4 to drag it into...

The others open with the colour bar right up against the left of the SE window at 1.

So there is no way to grab the lil arrow and drag up.

Am i missing something?

Also when i tried it, it just seemed to drag them back rather than include the preroll and all regions got outta sync.

Then i selected all and dragged with the lil square arrow/box left and it was like it was including recorded bits that aren't in the regions so is it not just elongating the actual regions to an orginal state? or is it different?

The actual preroll happens over no regions - like, if i zoom right in,

the sound of the preroll is over empty space before the regions begin....

But then i moved all regions to 1.1 or 1 &an eighth of a bar or whatever so it all starts later and i

think there is something in the bounce!

So i guess it's just a matter of moving stuff along so there is enough room for the preroll to be 'played'?

...any tips on that sample editor thing would be greatly appreciated

cus i looked in the manual and i couldn't find what it was.

Thanks, much appreciated,😀

Hey Teedoff087,

Yep, this nudging things along is the way - so either way -

yours that my logic doesn't seem to do or the other way that does, your answer was right.

I messed up with the 'correct answer' points thingy and can't undo it -

but dunno how to email you or

where to go to ask apple folks to change it. I'll try other ways.

Sorry (embarrassed) and thanks again,

Haha, yeah I didn't know how to answer your question about the new discussions "correct answer"/"helpful answer" thing. I haven't started any threads since they put in this new system so I haven't had to deal with that yet.

As far as the sample editor goes, you should be able to scroll to the left in the sample editor for those tracks, but only if there is actually pre-roll data for that region. So hopefully that answers your question. I highly recommend looking at tutorial videos for Logic if you want to learn how to use the sample editor in more detail. You can also read things in the manual but honestly it's a lot easier to get up and running if you watch a video and actually see things work. I highly recommend checking out David Earle's YouTube channel (SFLogicNinja) if you're interested in some cool things you can do with Logic. They're in depth and detailed and just fun to watch if you're a music nerd.

uhuh...

so, it seems Apple are on the case w the 'wrong answerpoint' thing.

I'll just ask a simple question...

(how do i get my rocketship out of an audio track onto a midi track without losing the lush shoogazeyharmonix?)

and you can answer and then i can sweep you themextrapointszz.

David Earle (...or SFLN-he dunt care), my hero!

where would i be without him?

Shame he kinda fades out at logic 9 release cus...

or am i missing something?

The sample editor tho...scaree...literally time to face my fears.

I contracted Vague Zombiehed Syndrome everytime i opened it or the manual to read about it.

But i agree manual=good

I am a SelfConfessedManualNerd-

but imho, like most unhuman info systems, it has it's limitations...

(o, no, i shan't expand)

Suggestion- small incremental refunds off Logic everytime we feedback a valuable prob/issue that ent explained humanly or contextually in the manual...read my lips...'we-want-love'...hahapurrfection!
