You don't mention what type of TV you have, or the connections it has, but get the Apple Digital AV Adapter if your TV has HDMI:

Thanks, I have two flat-screen TVs, one with a HD box from Time Warner Cable and the other without, but HD-compatible. In order to use the Apple Digital AV Adapter, will I need to already have or purchase special cables to connect from the Adapter to the TV? (I have lots of miscellaneous cables, so I may already have what I need -- for example, the cables to connect my Sony camcorder to the TV.)
I see on the Apple link you provided that there is an HDMI cable sold separately. I will purchase that, and before opening it see whether I already have a cable that works.
Do I need to install a special app in order to run the movies or can I play them directly from Netflix on the TV via the Ipad2?
You don't need to install a special app. The iPad screen will be mirrored on the HDTV, and some apps provide additional functionality. Some apps deliberately disable the TV out function for various reasons, so you'd have to check the Netflix app as I don't know about that one.
You'll need an HDMI to HDMI cable to connect from the HDMI connector on the Apple adapter to the HDMI in on your HD TV.
Thanks Julian. What exactly is "mirroring"? I ask because the comments I've read this morning about the adapter and cable connection say that Ipad2 can "mirror" (the image of the Ipad2 on the HDTV) but that mirroring is not possible for the original Ipad, which my wife has. Nevertheless, apparently the original Ipad can be connected to the TV, according to comments. Is "mirroring" a matter of the fidelity of the image to that shown on the Ipad or Ipad2?
Mirroring means you get an exact reproduction of the iPad display on the TV - that includes the homescreen and icons etc.
The original iPad does not support mirroring. It can only send certain content (mostly videos) to an external screen. You cannot see the homescreen or apps on the iPad 1 external screen.
you can watch your movies on your tv with apple tv via air play

Yes, Airplay is great with Apple TV, but just remember, it costs about £100, Apple TV that is, so maybe 120 Euros.
In germany does it cost 119€ and you can more as see videos from your iPad to tv!
Yes! But it not show in full screen 16:9 on TV - just in center 4:3 - via reciever and directly.
My HDMI plugs are full can I get a splitter and go back and forth between the Blue Ray player and the Ipad2?
I am also interested in this-the hdmi to hdmi cable-can it be a regular Hdmi to hdmi cable or does it need to be an apple one?
