It appears that the App Store has been deleted on my iPad and I am unable to get it reinstalled. I cannot find anything on the web that even remotely addresses this type of problem, any help would be appreciated. I have already tried to do a resync.

It can't be deleted from the iPad because it is preinstalled on the device. It may be on another screen so wipe from screen to screen to see if it's on another screen.
Another possibility is that if you have restrictions enabled on your iPad that could be why you can't see the icon. I don't use restrictions but I think if you have it enabled the icon will disappear until you disable the restriction.

If all your Restrictions are turned off and your app is still missing:
1. Reset you home screen layout: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout
- After resetting browse your home screens to see if it has reappeared.
2. If your application is still missing you will need to Restore the device.

Solved: General> Restrictions>Installing Apps and In-App Purchases. My restrictions were turned on to stop the "kids" from buying too many apps. The App icon is now back on the main screen. 🙂
Wow! What great responses and in lightning quick fashion. As it turns out, I had turned on restrictions to prevent my 5 kids from doing something on accident (like deleting the App Store). As it turned out, I got sick a few days later and ended up in the hospital for 4 days and on bed rest the remainder of the week. By the time that I was healthy again I had forgotten about my settings changes and began to fear the worse. This was my first foray into the Apple community, but it won't be my last! Thanks again all!
Hey demo. Am having the same problem. Not seeing my App Store, my restrictions are enable and I did not do it, now in order for me to disable it, I need a password which I don't have. How can you help.

IN your case if you cannot remember the restrictions passcode you will need to /RESTORE/ the device to factory settings; you will lose all of your contacts, calendars, reminders, passwords, etc.
You cannot restore from a backup as the backup would bring hte restrictions passcode right back onto the device
In addition to Demo's excellent suggestions, is it possible you put in into a folder by accidentally moving it over another app or vice versa?
