iTunes freezes when syncing my iPad!

Since I did the updates of iTunes to 10.2.2 and iPad iOS update to 4.3.2 Saturday all went to pieces.

My iPad cannot sync with my Windows 7 PC no more. iTunes freezes all the time at "preparing to sync apps"...

I have re-installed iTunes already four times. Reset iPad as well and still no luck!

What is the solution?

iPad, iOS 4.3.2, Windows 7 PC

Hi all,

Since i downloaded the newer version of Itunes and running the ios 4.3.1 on my ipad 2; i've been able to sync with itunes for some days. My photos and apps were all transferring fine.

Yesterday i downloaded an app that had some bugs (a paid one!) and since it crashed i restarted my ipad.

On reload the app didn't show anymore, went to itunes to download it again but i couldn't download it for free (as already paid).

Decided to sync with itunes and download it from there, but at sync step 1 my itunes freezes and there is no way around that problem. (on a mac pro 17')

Tried to sync with my itunes (updated) on my windows 7 laptop, went thru the erease and sync process ... at backing up my paid apps itunes freezes again ....

Does the latest application downloaded (containing a bug) might be responsible for all this mess? any solutions on how to get itunes to sync with my ipad so i can backup the latest downloaded apps ?

Thanx to those who read this and the others who'll try to help 🙂

God Bless

Happens all the time to both my iPad 1&2 with Windows XP.
Each has about 10Gb of 64Gb capacity left.

This may be a memory issue cos I noticed when the failure to sync happens, I usually see (using XSysinfo app) that the free memory is less than 30Mb or so.

My workaround is to do a reboot (hold down both ON/OFF button and HOME button until ...screen goes black and Apple logo shows up. This clears the memory.
And then try to resync. And it works.

2nd odd thing is that sometimes this also doesn't work if I cancel the Copy all Photos in library to PC popup window when I unplug and replug the sync cable to the iPad.

But more often that not, it works if I OK that step. Strange.

Wish Apple can patch this irritating bug once and for all.

Hey again,

Having more than 1 computer (mac and pc) i tried to sync my ipad on my pc instead of the mac (main device for ipad / iphone sync). went thru the "this device is synced with another library, do you want to erease ......" and selected erease and sync.

Of course during the Syncing process at step 2 it freezes... (itunes 10.2.2 ipad 4.3.1).... i unplugged the ipad and checked if the apps were deleted but it wasn't the case... good!

went back to sync it with the mac library and canceled on all the prompted messages (this device is synced with another itune library blabla.... even if on the pc it has froze, the mac itunes promted this msg)... went to the ipad tab and selected the pictures/videos i wanted to sync and clicked on sync.... It worked! all of the bought apps has been backed up and the sync has been done successfuly...

tried another sync but it froze !!!! Did the same procedure again and .... it worked !!

I believe i'm going to be running that loop until apple finds a fix and publish it... Apple if you hear us, please do something asap.

I agree, I'm not crazy about shutting down my firewall or anti-virus program for any reason.

I have tried the above referenced ideas and none of them worked. What I have done is turned off all syncing of pictures, videos and movies. At least it completes syncing now without hanging, but this is like saying I'll only get 30% functionality out of my iPhone or iPad. Makes the BlackBerry and Samsungs more attractive everyday.

Got all exicted with the new iTunes update, but It is with a heavy heart I must say Apple missed the ball once again. iTunes still hangs on FINISHING SYNC and it never copied over any of my pictures to my iPhone.

HEY APPLE SO-CALLED PROGRAMMERS!!!! DO YOU GUYS AND GALS NEED ANY HELP??? HIRE AN EAST INDIAN (No racial slur intended.) KID AND FIX THE BLANKETY-BLANK PROBLEM!!!!!

Here it is July 14th and I can only extend this thread. Since the latest iTunes update my entire household has no ability to sync. We all have a mac and none of our devices sync. iTunes freezes for iPhones, iPads and iPods! Awesome!!! I believe this Apple's way of trying to get us to buy new equipment. Sad, very sad.

BTW: It's not working on our mac books, imac and quad core running 10.5.8

September 24th and this absurd story is still going on... My PC has Windows 7 Pro 64-bit installed and the most recente version of iTunes (10.4) won't let me sync my iPad 2! What's happening Apple? Maybe I should give my iPad as a gift to my seven-year-old niece, since you can't guarantee a reliable software to make it useful as a working tool. For the price I paid, I obviously expected to have more than a sophisticated toy... Show some respect for your consumers!!

I updated to 10 a while back, when it came out, however I have not tried sync my iPad or iPhone until now that I updated to IOS 5.0 on both. using my Windows 7 machine

My iphone worked fine after the install, however my ipad did not sync my pictures or Movies, even though they were selected. The installation seamed to have finished with out an error, however i did not sit in front of the computer for the 2 hours that it took to complete, so and error could have appear but it was not on the screen wen I returned.

After I noticed that they did not copy I un-selected both and Sync, it updated the iPad, then I selected to re-sync, the movies were copied, but the pictures did not.

Now I get a consistent Freeze every time I try to sync on step 2 "Copying purchased items"

No way out...I had to cancel iTunes. I even un-selected pictures sync. and still freezes. I am assuming that the problem is not with the pictures, but with the apps.

I am tempted to remove the Apps and try again....but what a pain for something that should work..!

I do not need my pictures that bad to have to go threw all that pain.

I hope Apple is reading these threads and find a common area to fix this.

I having a similar problem. Just received my ipad3 yesterday and it will not sync photos or movies. I'm currently running a 64 bit windows 7 machine with the latest version of iTunes installed on it (10.6.0.40) and it freezes when trying to sync photos and movies. I turned off the photo sync and it just freezes when it gets to the movies. I tried to sync my original iPad (ver1 w/os 5) and it worked, photos, movies... Any suggestions out there?

Same problem with iPad 2 and latest iTunes... It starts to sync after awhile sometimes and then freezes again. Tried transfering files to it in the Programs>File sharing section too, but it just times out and gives an error. I hate this piece of software so much. So much potential but so many ****** bugs. It's embarrasing that this big a company with the amount of resources that Apple has still have so many unresolved problems with their s/w...
