Hi

If you look inside the headphone socket on the side of the MacBook, can you see a red light?

had a coupleof days with mac doing funny things...yesterday I was backing up adn it frooze..I had to switch it off...it dindt turn on anymore.put the disk in and now I'm trying to repair the disk..it says it can't be repaired..

it also says

incorrect n.of threads recors

invalid volume file count (it should be 347363 instead of 347360)

missing thread records(id=....loads of them)

missing directory records(id=..loads of them)

and finally the volume hd could not be repaired after 3 attemps.

tried it 10 times....

I think my HD is gone!!!!

don't understand whats happened.

mac didn't get any bump, was not dropped, nothin spilt over it...never even left the house!!!!!

it's just ove 1 and 1/2 year old.....

Hi Alissa

It's not too clear from your message, but you should be trying to repair the HD by booting up from your install DVD and selecting disk utility. If you've tried that and failed then it's time to take your Mac to a repair shop.

Fortunately, replacing the HD is fairly simple so if it proves necessary then it won't be too expensive, and if you've bought the extended warranty then it won't cost a thing. The real nuisance is that you have to restore all your files - I hope you have a backup.

The HD is one of the hardest working parts of any computer and it contains a number of moving parts which are subject to wear and friction. Statistically, they are very reliable but sometimes one will just fail for no apparent reason, and it can happen with any brand of computer. Don't blame yourself.

Best wishes
