All iPod touches have the same connections in USB, I myself have tested this, I put my new iPod touch 4G (64GB) on the dock I had a hard time fitting it on, but that is because of the shape of the iPod touch, once I was able to maneuver it onto the dock, the iPod touch was charging just as my 2nd generation had. it depends on the shape of your doc connector too, is it hard to access? have you had a previous iPod touch model before this one?

Previous generations of iPods shipped with an adaptor (in the box) that held the iPod onto any Dock. So you fit the adaptor onto the Dock and then place the iPod into the adaptor. Different generations of iPod had their own size of adaptor. However, the 4th gen does not ship with the adaptor in the box (as far as I can tell) so you need to buy an one, specifically for a 4th gen Touch.

If you have a previous iPod which you used with the Bose, your new 4th gen Touch does not fit into the adaptor for the old iPod. You need to carefully remove the adaptor and fit the new 4th gen one. Notice though, that the Bose Docking stations came with a thin "ring" which fitted around some (or most) of the adaptors.

This is a question I'm having after getting a docking station for Christmas. The system we were given is supposed to work with the first and second generation iPod touch, and a couple generations of the iPhone. We're thinking about trying the fourth generation adaptor, but when I called Memorex, the customer service agent said it would make the iPod fit, but it wouldn't charge or play music. So that's pretty much useless for us - we want something we can use in the house, or can take outside while having a bbq or something.

Are there any portable iPod touch fourth generation compatible docking stations that folks can recommend that will be less complicated? 🙂 Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Gal:

I'm not exactly clear what your question is.

  1. How does the system you have been given not work with your iPod? What is the problem?
  2. What is your point about the 4th generation adaptor? The "adaptor" is merely a physical piece of plastic that sits in the Docking Station's dock and creates the exact shape for your model of iPod to fit snugly into it. So a 1st or 2nd generation iPod would not benefit in any way from a 4th gen adaptor.
  3. Are you trying to find a portable iPod Docking Station that works without mains power?
  4. You said: " the customer service agent said it would make the iPod fit, but it wouldn't charge or play music." What is your point about charging the iPod? I don't understand what you are trying to say. I presume that the system you've been given does charge a 1st and 2nd gen iPod.
  5. The product you linked to looks portable to me. So why does it not suit your needs, is this about using it out in the garden (my question 2)?
  6. Less complicated in what way? What exactly are you finding complicated? Simply place the iPod into the Docking Station and (presumably) select the iPod input and press play.
