iPad 2 Cannot Determine Location???

I have owned an iPad (gen.1) for over a year and have no issues with maps, google, etc. determining my "current location"...at home WiFi only, and I know how to fully navigate the iPad software.

I now have an iPad 2, and it "Cannot Determine Location" using the same WiFi source and working side-by-side with my gen1 iPad that works fine...even tried on other WiFi hotspots.

I have read other threads that this is a known issue with the iPad 2.

Others suggested: hard re-boot, power on-off, turn wifi on-off, check Location Services ON, and other say it fixes itself in a few days or weeks???

Others suggest mapping my wifi location with Skyhook, but again I have no issues with gen.1 iPad???

What is the correct fix for this issue?

Does it eventually work itself out?

Or are others living with this problem?

Is this a future OS fix?

Again, only an iPad 2 issue.

Thanks

iPad 2, iOS 4.3.2

Yours will look for the nearest cell tower first and then go for the GPS satellites. They are line of sight only so if you are near a window they might work, if you are in the central part of a building they won't work at all. Go to Airplane mode and you can go for a WiFi router location but again you are at the mercy of whatever routers are in your area and how they are "registered" in Apples database for location.

The same problem came back after ugrading to iOS 4.3.5.

At the same time an old iPhone 3G (no GPS) with no SIM-card, WIFI-only could determine its location with no problems. Both using the same WLAN access point / router.

After a full red slider shutdown and restart, the iPad2 was fine again.

So I think it is definitely no sense in blaming the manufacurers of the WLAN equipment or lack of GPS signal etc.

The source of the problem definitely has been nailed down.

Apple should do their homework...

As others mention:

You might have to do the red slider reboot several times and/or days...

Good luck!

> How does the iPhone 3G not have GPS?

The iPhone is since months inside an old European building with thick stone walls (castle like ;-)

> I am curious, then you are saying that no one who is using an iPad that is running 4.3.5 can use location services?

No, the red slider restart fixed it again. At least for me.

I just want to say: After the update to 4.3.5 it could not determine its location until the red slider restart.

And

a) "we" should not blame WLAN routers etc. if at the same time and location other Apple devices (iPhone, iPad1) are working fine.

b) it's a shame that there is still nothing official from Apple (it resembles the WLAN problems of iPhone 3G and iPad1 [repeatedly asking for password or forgetting the password at all]. there a red slider reboot can help as well)

This has been happening with my 16 gb wifi only iPad 2. Here's what I think may be the problem. From what I've noticed, when my iPad does recognize my location, it shows me on another street or at the neighbor's house. Now I have a new wireless router that is not registered with any database. I'm going to try to submit a new access point to skyhook by supplying them with my MAC for the wireless radio in my router. My hope is that this will resolve the issue at home. That's my theory since I don't have any problem finding my location at most public wifi locations. We shall see.
