590-0790-A adapter for Multiscan 15 "Monitor

I need some help if you can. I have this monitor cable already, but I need the little adapter that connects to this so I can connect that to my Apple Multiscan 15” display.

I’m guessing that the adapter that connects to this is a 15 pin male (on both ends). The back of the monitor has a 15 pin female. Would where I can find it and how much

loyle,

Any good used computer store should have them. I support computer recycling shops.

Here is a link that shows newer adapters:

I am still looking for the fifteen year-old knowledge base article that shows what you are looking for.

It was linked at the bottom of the page!

Oddly enough, the chart does not list the 15 inch multi-scan display. The adapters listed for the 17" ms should work as well.

If you were in Washington State I could get you to a dozen places that have resources for your monitor cable needs. However, you indicated that your main goal was to view what was on the hard drives. So, revisiting the objective and what you have to work with.

Will the 475 start up and work with the 15" multi-scan? Did the on-off-on trick work? A new PRAM battery is nice but not necessary for a quick test. We have not purchased a PRAM battery in over a decade and we keep dozens of older macs running just fine. They are limited use machines. I would rather buy a G3 tower for five dollars and use shortcuts than buy batteries to just sit in a machine that gets limited use.

Once you have the 475 going, you could try changing the 6100 hard drive to the 475. Post back with the name of a large city near you and maybe we can find a user group or recycler that will have tools for you to play with.

****, I tried the trick with the PRAM, got a battery.. that thing is dead! Even if it did work, the cable connected from the monitor is as two row 15 pin male which is not compatible with the 590-0796-A. I'm glad you know the path I'm trying for. All I need a working monitor. and a working computer so I can interchange all the HD(4 of them) to see whats on them, then for each one, get the contents off of them(that's another story).

I guess another way to get this done is go buy a cheap mac just to put the HD in and check it out. But then thats money I don't want to spend.

ALL I NEED IS TO CONNECT THAT MONITOR TO MY 6100

I can't use ethernet(cause I don't think it support that cable, i could be wrong)which probably be the best way

loyale,

I do not recall asking where you are, name of large city near you is enough detail, so we can find a mac user group to help you. I have dozens of each cable adapter purchased at government surplus sales. The problem is that handling costs far exceed the value of the adapters. I can buy G3s for $5 and I have G4s given to me by recyclers. It is a crazy marketplace that values the transaction cost and shipping and handling more than the product itself.

Post back with the name of a city and hopefully we can find you some affordable options. Buying a used mac just for this exercise could be viewed as a transaction cost rather than buying a computer that you will only use for one day. If you were to look for any one computer to buy for legacy Mac work it would be the platinum colored G3 that some call beige. It will work with the monitor you have. It will take cheap PCI video cards. It has onboard SCSI. It has onboard IDE. It will take cheap USB cards. The only thing it does not have is the original external floppy drive port. But the internal floppy and zip drives cover that need.

Hope we can help.

I would really appreciate it. I live in Montreal Canada. Although, i don't mind spending (not a lot) for this problem, i just don't know which is the best inexpensive away to go about it.

I have a Turquoise G3(I don’t think I can get into this one since its all sealed and don’t know if the HD is removable).

Its too funny that I have what I need, a monitor (which needs a 15 both sides) and 2 6100 and a LC475 which are not compatible with the Monitor. If I can even get a fully operating computer(like a Power Mac G4 http://montreal.en.craigslist.ca/sys/2380108013.html) or lower that I can just put in my HD, take what I need from all three…All problems will be fixed , even without the monitor cause I can hook it up to my present Imac or

That way I can Ethernet it from and to both computers ( I think if that’s how it goes).

loyle,

The Ordinateur is too much to spend and would not have a SCSI card for the older hard drives.

These guys should be able to find some temporary hardware for you:

OMG I think I might be on to something, see if you can help me with this.

On this link http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=mac+vga+adapter+-dvi+-mini&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg = there are adapters.

See the VGA 15-Pin Female to Male AMC Adapter MTC-MAC-C88X, will I have the

the 590-0796-A adapter, right? So the wide end of that adapter goes into the 6100, the other end of that adapter is 2 row 15 hole female. But the monitor i have has the 3 a three row 15 hole female (same end as that VGA 15-Pin Female to Male AMC Adapter MTC-MAC-C88X flip side of this adapter) making it a 3 hole female to 3 hole female(not what I need).

So, with all these other adapters on this page, can I get theVGA 15-Pin Female to Male AMC Adapter MTC-MAC-C88X then try another adater to connect between the two?

So, I'd connect the VGA 15-Pin Female to Male AMC Adapter MTC-MAC-C88X (2 row 15 pin male side) to the 590-0796-A adapter female side, then find another 3 row 15 pin from that to another 3 row 15 pin end to my monitor or some other combination of all these adapters?

Very confusing I know

Unfortunately, none of the adapters will fit your 6100 unless it has a PDS video card with a standard video port.

This is the adapter

for these computers:

Performa 6100 Series
Performa 6116CD
Power Macintosh 6100/60, AV
Power Macintosh 6100/66, AV
Power Macintosh 7100/66, AV
Power Macintosh 7100/80, AV
Power Macintosh 8100/100, AV
Power Macintosh 8100/110
Power Macintosh 8100/80, AV
Workgroup Server 6150
Workgroup Server 6150/66
Workgroup Server 8150
Workgroup Server 8150/110

The adapters you have found will only convert from the two row mac format to the PC - three row VGA.

adapter So, unless you have two video ports on the 6100, you need high density to two row mac and then two row mac to three row VGA.

Or, pull the hard drives and put them in an external drive bay and connect to a newer computer with special cards. Some one in a club will have these lying around.

Hi its me again. I kinda have my problem worked out with all the cables and adapters. What I got was a

5FT SVGA VGA Monitor M/M Male To Male Extension Cable 5

with a

Mac to VGA display adapter MxF - Apple Macintosh

So, everything was up and running. I was changing each HD with the computer so see what was on each of them on the Apple Multiscan 15" Monitor.

Now all of a sudden, the monitor is black. I just stopped viewing. Now all that's lit is a yellow/orange light above the power light.

I keep trying different HD's thinking some are just blown or shot!! Nothing! I checked online and one person kinda had the same problem(I believe theirs was a PC monitor) and it said that it must be my video card??

Not sure if that so on my Mac.

Can someone help explain this to me. Do I need another monitor? I don't want to buy another cheap monitor just to connect and still find it didn't have anything to do with the monitor

Thanks

Guys

I hope you are all still on line ... after 4 years.... and can recall the problems you had with getting an LC475 to work to an Apple Multi Scan 15 Display?

I have exactly the same problem BUT I have a 3 row 15 pin male to male cable and a 2 row 15 pin male to male AND an adaptor and just to be friendly I also have the orange light on my Display but a black screen!

I know the screen works because I also have a Powerbook 1400c/166 and the dongle that allows you to run it to another screen and I get a nice clear picture and the arrow head cursor - but oddly no other part of my PB 1400 screen! (thats not a problem at present but if anyone knows the answer Id be glad to hear... I have different problems with the PB on which - in error I think - I installed 9.1 and the cd and floppy don't recognise any CD or floppy inserted!

So.....My LC475 and PB 1400 have been with me since new but had not been used for perhaps 14 years! That they both started up was just luck...

I do have an odd thing though, the power on off switch on the 475 was not clicking and didn't seem to want to with on so no boot!

I stripped the power supply out today and cleaned it all up result we booted!

However the tones are very musical, 3 sets of them one after another!

I knew the PRAM battery was on the way out and I have a spare which I will try replacing.

Reading the plethora of citations you guys shared with one another there seems to be a suggestion that while the MS15D is not supposed to have a problem working with an LC475 it clearly does.... and advice of what sorted your problem that you can share?
