ATV2 and 5.1 sound issues.

Hi alll

I have read much about ATV2 not been able to play 5.1 audio, yet I can't get to the bottom of whether there is a fix or work around. I have many movies that are on my mac that play fine but with no sound when watched via ATV2? Equally, I have 2 where they are encoded in stereo that play perfectly.

I have called apple but they couldn't really help.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

On the plus side, the new shape and colour makes the new ATV the perfect paper weight...

It's getting even worse. Now even rented content with 5.1 will not load when Dolby Digital is set to On. I get an error indicating that the video couldn't load and to try back later. I am using HDMI for video only, with optical audio to my receiver.

If I reset the Apple TV, it will work for one video, then it goes back to the same error for both local content and rented content.

The only way I can get it to work is to turn Dolby Digital to Auto or Off, but then I do not get Dolby Digital sound. This is so frustrating when it worked fine in the original firmware - always played Dolby Digital without an issue.

Is Apple going to address this issue?

I'm sure they are. However, how fast they can solve the problem will likely depend on the number of people having problems, the frequency these users provide feedback to Apple, and the Quality of the feedback itself.
