iPhoto 9.1.2 splitting events in iOS

Hello,

I upgraded yesterday to iPhoto 9.1.2 and after synching my iOS devices like I normally do with iTunes, I noticed my events in iOS are split into several events with the same name, but in iPhoto they show up as only one event.

For example I have an event in iPhoto labeled "Lake Tahoe 2009" and when I see events in my iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 1) the event is split into:

All together they contain all the photos from that event, but I don't understand why it's splitting the event into so many. Some events are split into as many as 15 events with the same name all containing some photos of that event.

Moreover, when I see my device in iTunes, in the Photos section, I originally had it set to "Sync Photos from iPhoto - All photos, albums, events and faces". if I change it to "Selected albums, events, and faces" I get a list with all the duplicated events. (see screenshot)

You see all those repeated events? Again, in my iPhoto application, the events show up as a single one, instead of multiple copies with the same name and only a section of the photos.

This started happening when I updated to iPhoto 9.1.2

Somebody recommends reverting to iPhoto 9.1.1. Just remember: updates are often backward compatible, but rarely forward compatible. Hence, if you install the 9.1.2 update and work with it for sometime, you might make changes to the iPhoto Library that are not compatible with iPhoto 9.1.1. Downgrading iPhoto to version 9.1.1 might then confront that version with an iPhoto Library that it does not understand entirely.

Regards,

Richard

Okay, It seems this has been a problem for many users, and it seems apple is not going to fix it soon.

I found a temporary solution to get all my photos I want synced on my iPad/iPhone by doing the following smart album. (see screenshot)

I have about ten events with Julia included in the event name, and I just placed a "keyword" on all of the events I want synced. It takes about 5 minutes to set up. I guess this is my workaround for the meantime.

Hi Guys,

I use iPhoto Library Manager to manage several iPhoto libraries I have and thought there was a problem with iPLM and reported the issue to them and they advised that there is an XML file in each iPhoto library which all other problems like iPLM and iTunes etc use to see what events there are and so it turns out the issue was with iPhoto 9.1.2 as reported here but seems directly related to the AlbumData.xml file. Just thought I'd share that.

Hi Guys,

I may have found an easier temporary solution until Apple comes out with a fix.

If you see your events in iTunes duplicating. Go to your iPhoto, click on View>Sort Photos>Reset Manual Sort then View>Sort Photos> (then check your preferred sorting).

I have been trying this out for two days already and it seems to be working.

Here's my workflow: I open my iPhoto, then open iTunes, sync my photos from the iPhone camera roll to iPhoto, then do the workaround.

Works for me for the moment. (fingers crossed)

Aha! The problem appears solved for me. I'm now running iOS4.3.3.

In iPhoto I went to View>Sort Events>Manually.

I then moved a couple of events about to change the event order.

I then went back to View>Sort Events>By Date.

This put the events back as I wanted them in iPhoto.

I then closed iPhoto and synced my iPhone in iTunes.

Hey Presto!

The incorrectly split photo events on my iPhone had merged correctly to give just the one event as they appear in iPhoto. Hope this helps...and that it lasts!
