Magic Mouse all of a sudden loses connection after computer goes to sleep.

I have a magic mouse and a MacBook Pro 17" with OS 10.6.7 installed. My magic mouse has been working fine until this week and I did not install any new software. Now when the computer goes to sleep (not just the screen saver but actually goes to sleep) my mouse loses its connection when I wake the computer. However the bluetooth icon in the menu bar will still say it is connected but it won't do anything. I have to go up to the bluetooth icon and disconnect it and then turn off the mouse, turn the mouse back on and then go up to the bluetooth icon and click on connect. That is a lot of steps to have to do every time my computer goes to sleep.

Any ideas on what has caused this to all of a sudden happen? It has always worked fine. One other thing I noticed is if I go into bluetooth preferences and click on advanced, the option for "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" is unchecked and it is greyed out so I can't check it.

I don't think that is the issue as I can work on the computer for hours and I don't have a problem with it disconnecting. It is only when the computer goes to sleep. And what is strange is I can restart the computer and don't have the same problem as if it goes to sleep. For the time being, my work around is to set it to never go to sleep when plugged in from within the energy saver preferences and that seems to be working. But obviously I would like my computer to go to sleep to save energy.

After reading your first post again, I think a PRAM reset might help:

I have no idea what has happened. I lost the connection w/ my magic mouse and wireless keyboard 5 days ago. I used my 'old' mouse and keyboard connections each day so I could use my Mac (10.6.7.) I tried to re-connect the wireless(es) to no avail each day. Before I called for help this morning, I decided to check the connections once again and they both worked!!
