Intel 320 SSD on their Macbook Pro

Yes I read your links. But how can I be sure that TRIM will work with this patch? Is there other solution how to verifiy TRIM like checking memory blocks in Linux?

Kingston SSDnow V100 does have TRIM support. V+ 100 doesnt have TRIM support. It is for OS which doesnt support TRIM, thats whay I asked what do you think on Kingston V+100?

Now I'm seriously considering to buy http://www.kingston.com/ukroot/ssd/vplus100.asp because of its aggressive OS-independent garbage collection. This article http://www.anandtech.com/show/4010/kingston-ssdnow-v-plus-100-review says that this ssd uses same Toshiba Controller like is used in Macbook Air. This ssd also support TRIM, so it could be work with TRIM patch...

Just thought I would add my experience.

I have been using the Intel SSD 320 Series 160Gb SSD in a Quad Core iMac for a couple of months.

Its was running fine all through the Lion Beta program, but Monday evening, my iMac with Lion GM locked up and I had to power off the system (that never happens to my Mac normally).

On rebooting, I got the flashing folder with a question mark, signifying no devices with a valid OS were detected 😟

The following morning, I had to replace the SSD with a 1TB platter drive and restore my system (thank god for Time Machine).

Disk Utility repoerts the SSD as 8.4Mb ins size (no, thats not a typo) and thinks the drive is unformatted.

This is very disappointing, so much for hoping SSD would be more reliable than mechanical drives 😟

I loved the speed of SSD, but this type of failure whether its Intel's fault or OSX causing this catestrophic failure I am still unsure, but either way totally un-acceptable and has made me wary of wanting to try again with SSD!

I have bought the intel 320 ssd 600gb and I don't think the speed gains are worth the money. I don't know about other brands, but the speed didn't impress me much compared to my former seagate momentus xt.

Another thing to consider is that the Intel technical support is useless. They told me that it is an apple issue and that I have to contact apple. I haven't done it yet but I think they will say they don't support other SSDs than what they sell.

I am ****** off at Apple as well because if you follow the other links in my post you'll see that in order to get Win 7 run in AHCI mode you have to hack the MBR and change some flags. Apple doesn't make it easier either.

I think this technology is not there yet. Everbody brags about how fast the OSes boot up. Yes, it's fast but how many times do you do it in a day?

You really have to take a look at what you do on a daily basis. If you use software that writes big files, it will save you time. If you do a lot of typing and designing manually using the mouse and so on, save your money, it is not worth it. I am a software developer and in my daily routine (compile programs mainly vs 2010 c# and delphi) I find that the intel 320 ssd is not that much faster than my previous HDD.

I've had an Intel 320 SSD in my early 2008 15" MBP for almost 3years now. Runs great and haven't had any problems.
