new iPad 2 detects my wi-fi but does not connect to internet

why will new iPad 2 not connect to internet even though it detects my wi-fi? It is frustrating to have looked forward to getting it so much & then not be able to use it right away.

Your iPad detects your WiFi, but does it actually connect to the network? Do you have any other devices on the network and can they connect to the internet?

I just bought an iPad2 - 64GB - WiFi and 3G - and have the same problem . . .

I have to add - while visiting friends I had no problem getting into the internet via WiFi,

but after getting home - I had no problem getting into the WiFi, but no internet. Also

I have a MacPro and a windows NB both on the same WiFi and no problem with either.

I have experienced the same frustration of being connected online at home one minute and then not being able to get the interent the next minute. Several other computers all still able to work on the wireless.

The only thing i found that worked was in the setting for the connection there is a "renew lease" button that I select. When this is selected it will work fine afterward.

@ creolesbk It's exactly the same for me !!

All my others divices are connected and working with the proper IP setting, only my Ipad have a strong wifi signal detected, but a weird IP adress : 169.xxxxxxx

Anyone has a solution ???

As in the advice above try restarting your router by removing power to it for 30 seconds and then restarting.

On your iPad select Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings.

Now try to connect.

If this doesn't work look for an update to your router firmware.

If nothing works, test your iPad on some other WiFi networks to see if it works there. If it doesn't then it may have a hardware problem and you should talk to Apple support. http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

If you need more help please start a new thread and give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

Guys, just found this old thread and maybe you can assist? I finally fell for the iPad as well!

Here's my problem - I have a Netgear DGN2200 router and my iPad connects to the network but not to the Internet; my WIN7 laptop however works fine. I have three DSL accounts and usually connect to whichever account via "dial-up" fashion where you are required to enter a different username and password.

I searched all over the iPad but cannot find fields where I can enter a username and password to connect to the Internet?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Midinut, you should always make a new post with your specific problem, rather than tag onto a post that's almost a year old. By having your own post, you can get answers via email, if you want.

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398

Additional things to try.

Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

If none of the above suggestions work, look at this link.
