Also what software are you talking about being update now?
If it is Norton which was the original topic of this thread then I must stand by original post on it. It is worthless and can be dangerous by corrupting your system. It is to be avoided at all times.

Worse software you can install on a Mac. This software is so invasive, it's nearly impossible to uninstall.
I've been a helper in the Safari forum for several years and I have seen numerous Safari crash reports where Symantec software caused the app to crash.
If you feel more comfortable having anti virus software installed, check out Sophos,

Or ClamXav http://www.clamxav.com/
Might want to read here before you install a/v software on a Mac.

Not only is Norton AntiVirus not needed nor useful, it is downright dangerous on a Mac. There is nothing for it to find on the Mac. About the only left for it to do is to cause problems. My recommendation is to stay far, far away for Norton AntiVirus.

Friends don't let friends do Norton.
The only anti-virus you need on a Mac is something to run as needed to clean the filth off Windows files before passing them on.
The free ClamXav works wonders, as the Mac can act like a Typhoid Mary.
Norton Anti-virus is famous to slow down PC and MAC, you don't need an anti-virus like our PC comrads because Macs does not read PC viruses. However, there are times when a Mac could be infected by a virus but you can download tons of free Mac anti-virus that does the job.
Finally they have updated their software and working ways... its great now.
