why did my iphone stop working?

Yesterday, my iPhone ceased to work. It is fully charged. My AT&T bill is paid in full. It can't be turned on via the on-off bar on top. It was working fine and i did not have any problems with it historically. It just stopped working. Any ideas or do I need to take into Apple? Please help.

Without knowing the "different ways" you tried it's hard to give you new advice. But here's what you should do or should have done:

  • Charge for 30 minutes with an Apple USB wall adapter and Apple USB to Lightning cable
  • Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until you see an Apple log or some other message. (On an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus hold VOLUME DOWN and SLEEP instead)
  • If you don't see anything, try again with a different USB wall adapter and different cable.
  • If you see an image showing a phone connected to iTunes follow these instructions: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If you don't see anything after all of these steps contact Apple support by clicking on the Contact Apple Support link here or at the top of this page, and follow the instructions.

Try restoring using DFU mode:

  • Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer if it isn't there already
  • Reboot your computer
  • Disable any antivirus and firewalls
  • Launch iTunes
  • Connect the device cable to a USB port on the computer (not to a USB hub), but DO NOT CONNECT TO THE DEVICE YET
  • Press and hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time for exactly 10 seconds, until the screen turns black, then release the SLEEP button but continue holding the HOME button. If an Apple logo appears while holding both buttons you held for too long; start over.
  • While still holding the HOME button connect the other end of the cable to the device
  • You should see a message in iTunes saying a phone in Recovery mode has been detected (it may take up to a minute for the message to appear). When you see that message release the HOME button and the device should restore. When asked DO NOT restore a backup; set up as a new phone.

If this doesn't work your phone is broken.
