Will the iPad ever get flash support?

I find many web sites using flash components and I am unable to use these sites. Many videos will not play and Facebook uses a flash control to upload photos to your wall so I can not even upload photos I have on my iPad through Facebook. I can go to my photo and push it to Facebook but you can not leave a comment by doing it this was or at least I see on obvious way to do this. I will have to say I am very dissatisfied with my iPad 2 because of this. Playing videos is one of Apples Bragging points yet a lot of the web sites I visit I can not watch the videos from my iPad.

iPad 2, iOS 4.3.1

I wasnt referring to sites beng exclusively flash (though there is one winery on my short list that is) but rather where flash is being used for part of the content, vidoe or an animation etc (eg canada's national newspaper).

And Im referring to desk top versions of web sites ... on my iPad I usually prefer to use the full version of a web site rather than the mobile site as the latter often gives a worms eye view (too many sites only have one mobile version geraed to phones as opposed to 2, one for phones and one for medium to fulll sized tablets etc, the latter can present as much info as the desk top just needs to be designed fortouch and the different environment).

But ... it is what it is ... this reality isnt likely to change. Ill just have to think carefully about my next mobile device; when I go tthe iPad I wasnt aware of the extent of the problem.

Security is awlays an issue. Im curious as to how Flash is Ok on the Mac, but not on iOS. That tells me that securoty is not the prime reason behind Apple's decision.

PS: The sites Im referrig to are all definitley "alive" with content frequently updated.

Apple no longer provides Flash with a new computer, the user has to add it themselves.

If you read this thread you will find the link to Steve Jobs thoughts on flash which did include security.

Security is indeed an issue but Flash (and Java) seem to have major issues with it. When I was working I was not allowed to have Flash on my PC because of some databases I had access to and their security restrictions.

You don't have to be forced to the mobile version of a website to avoid the Flash issue, that is an entirely different matter.

Buy your next mobile device sooner rather than later. As I already said Adobe no longer supports mobile flash themselves so eventually it will not be available on mobile devices.

Again: Adobe never produced Flash for the iPhone. Macs are not supplied with Flash installed, the user has to make the decision to install it. Apple cannot control whatever dross you decide to download. Had Adobe written the software, no doubt you would have been able to download it.

I know where your coming from.

A very common issue I have is that cnet.com's mobile site does not allow comments, you have to view the desktop version.

They also still use flash for all their videos. So a mobile that supports desktop versions and Adobe Flash is of big importance.

This is why I opted for the Galaxy Note 2, and the Galaxy Tab 2.

Adobe was never allowed to release Flash for ios, it's not like you say. They did try, but were told by Steve Jobs that no matter how well it performed it would never be allowed, he did not care if it would make you breakfast in bed, he wasn't going to allow it.

This is why alot of people believe the ban was not technical, but competition related as Steve Jobs was not to keen on people using sites like putlocker to watch free movies, or 4shared to listen to free music, thus why there are no music download apps on ios.

Do you know the names from every other company that makes mobile tech, that have apparently made similar refusals, causing Adobe to abandon development of Flash for all their equipment as well?

Wow 2 years after this thread was originally created you still have poeple in the bubble believing Flash is dead. It seems as though people here are so fixated on the Flash Player, they are totally oblivious to Adobe Air which is supported on the IOS, if you install the SDK, is written in AS3 (I use Adobe Flash Pro) and is cross platform. It seems pretty nieve to think Abobe would dump one of their most popular products just because some man with a grudge wouldn't allow the technology on their devices. Okay, so you can't install Flash Player as a plugin for the browser.... as if it is needed. Mobile devices are capable of lanching apps on the phone capable of handling anything a developer could think of, at least that's the experience I have with my devices and it's getting better. Adobe Air takes Flash (and when I say Flash I mean ActionScript 3) to a whole new level. There's been an explosion in Social Media and games and most of those are written in AS3 using some kind of framework like Starling... Angry Birds comes to mind and Arcane Legends is just amazing. And anybody wanting to go to Nickjr, a site my daughter visits pretty much daily, will understand that they need Flash installed to watch any of the movies or play any of the games....
