I've got an HP 2311x as well on a mini mac. HDMI to HDMI was slightly fuzzy. All you need to do as said before is turn the overscan off on the monitor by going into the menu on the monitor.
Menu - Image Control - Custom Scaling - Overscan - Off
If still a bit fuzzy then then maybe like me you had tried adjusting the Display on the System Settings on the Mac menu. So go back into this and make sure you have selected Best For Display and turned off the Overscan.
System Settings - Best For Display - Underscan Off
Wonderful new screen!
Thanks everyone
Thanks Art that did the trick - nice and simple!
Thanks man! (Treffibug)
Turning down the Sharpness setting of my Philips 8404 46 inch tv to zero made the crappy text go normal! It changed before my eyes just as you said! It made me search for two days. You made me find it! Many, many thanks.
What stays is the whole screen going pink every ones in a while?

Mac mini 2011 i5
I found in my case that both my dell displays made in 2010 give the same problem as the earlier posts.
But either of my two 2012 models worked perfectly on HDMI to HDMI as well as Mini Displayport to HDMI.
