Playing HBO GO from iPad 2 on TV

I had hoped to be able to tether my iPad 2 to a TV via the Digital AV Adapter that has the HDMI adapter and watch HBO GO. But it appears that the app blocks my ability to do this (other apps like You Tube and Crackle work). Is there any other way to tether the iPad2 to my TV so that I can play HBO GO on my TV?

So nsfw, then are you saying that with the most recent Ipad2 update, I should be able to watch HBOGO via my HDMI connect to a NON-Apple TV? Or, do you mean I need to update the HBO GO app, and it should work? Sorry for my ignorance on this issue, but I just got both the Ipad2 and the HDMI connector and tried it last night and PBS works, TED Talks work, but HBO GO comes on and then shuts down.

Thank you for your help.

First things first...I discovered that you have to enable airplay on your iPad by pressing the home button twice then swiping right to left along the bottom until you come to the music player toolbar where you will find the airplay icon. Click that and turn on screen mirroring. Hope this helps some of you. I did this because I only heard audio when watching a preview in the HBO GO app.

Problem is that when I turmed on mirroring the HBO GO app tells me "We're sorry, but HBO GO does not currently support HDMI video out from this device. We hope to offer this capability in the future". What device do they mean? My Apple TV or my iPad 2? Shouldn't it work?

So airplay isn't working in HBO Go and neither is playing any real content. I can only play some previews. For days now, when I try to play an actual episode or movie I get this: "We're sorry. Some videos may not be available at this time. We are working on this issue and hope to have it resolved shortly."

Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Logging in an out.

In settings > version see that the app version is 2.0.0.641 from 2013-02-01 build g1bf2378. Does anyone have a newer version? Maybe somehow I have an old app?

Eplebiter this isn't the case at all....you don't have to "enable mirroring" for HBO Go. It utizes the "normal" Airplay functions that everything else does. I use it every single day...as recent as 30 minutes ago.

I would just reset the iPad, reset the Apple TV and see if that just syncs everything back to how it should be. There is no reason that you should not be able to Airplay HBO Go at this time.

Hmmm, well that made things worsens. Earlier today I could play movies and now I can't, only previews. Re airplay, only the audio comes over when I hit AirPlay, so then following some other instructions I went to turn on mirroring, but get the strange hdmi video out message as I stated above. I don't unstand why it works for you and not for me :-(

I have an iPad 4, AppleTV g3 with current software and the most recent version of HBO GO. Oh, and am logged in via a Comcast / Xfinity account. When attempting to AirPlay (normal or mirroring) I receive an error message on the TV "an error occurred please try later". AirPlay works fine, for example, using Netflix.

Frustrating. Grateful for any tips.

Yeah, I'm using the Xfinity login, too. New Apple TV with latest sw 5.2.1. with iPad 2 (iOS 5.1.1) and updated the HBO Go app today with the release form Monday. With airplay only getting audio and when trying to fix by turning on mirroring I get the ""We're sorry, but HBO GO does not currently support HDMI video out from this device. We hope to offer this capability in the future" message.

I'm going to contact HBO Go (contacthbogo@hbo.com) and point them to this discussion. Maybe their app devs can help us out.
