Playing HBO GO from iPad 2 on TV

I'm having a slightly different problem with HBO GO. I just got an HDMI adapter for my iPad that I'd like to use to watch HBO GO on my TV. The adapter works well to mirror my iPad and play movies using TV Out. However, when I start playing a video using HBO GO, the app says that it is using TV Out for playback, but I get no video (only audio and--if I turn it on--closed captioning).

Interestingly, when I scrub to different playback locations, the video pops on for a second or two before disappearing again. Something similar happens in the following scenario. If I unplug the HDMI adapter, I get video back on the ipad, and if I plug it in while the video is playing, I get mirroring for a second, then the app says that it is using TV Out, at which point the picture expands to higher quality, but then it goes blank again after just a couple of seconds.

Anyone have an idea what's going on?

This is the same with my iPad. Apparently HBO blocks the HDMI interface to the TV. It does not work. I am now trying to play it using AirPlay and an Apple TV. My understanding is that is the only way to get HBO Go to play from an iPad to a TV. The other option is to use a PC (Apple of MS) to play HBO go to the TV. HBO has not real way to block that. I wish I too knew all this before I bought an HDMI cable from my iPad.

If you want to spen 130$ you should invest in an Apple TV and just mirror your iPad that way.

Well it's $99...and you can find refurbished directly from Apple, which holds the same warranty for even cheaper.

Both HDMI and AirPlay were blocked due to licensing issues on HBO's end. As of now both AirPlay and HDMI work now. I've done them both and use HBO GO via AirPlay almost everyday without incident.

I just tried airplay with an iPad 1 and an Apple TV but only got audio no video, what are you using to make both audio and video work with HBOGo and airplay.

It must be the iPad 1 it works with iPhone 5!!!!!

I'm having the same issue with both my iPhone 4S and iPad 2, but had neither such difficulty when I was using the HBO Go app with both devices about 3-4 months ago. What boggles the mind is that it works from my lady's iPhone 4S. I'm lost!

I was successfully using an HDMI cable to connect my iPad 2 to my TV. That is until the iOS 7 update, at least. Now the iPad screen says TV Out, I hear the sound, but there's no video. I reinstalled the app, and that worked once, however, when I came back the next evening, it was back to sound with no picture. Reinstalling the HBO Go app didn't fix it this time.

Help?

Sounds like an issue with the app. Most likely you're going to need to wait for hbo to update the app for ios7.

Updated the iPad to iOS7 and the updated the Apple TV... That fixed it for me.
