Macbook Internet Drops w/ 2Wire AT&T

So I have see this posting out there a few times, but there has not been a resolution to the issue and was hoping someone could respond where the issue relies and if there is a working solution (or do I need to switch carriers/modems. The issue (as described with others) is my Macbook can not connect to the internet due to the 2WIRE dropping a signal as frequent as every 5-10 minutes. The 2WIRE only drops a signal for my macbook (as the iphone, ipad and work computer (Dell)) all work fine, but the moment I start surfing (Safari and Firefox) the drops on the 2Wire Modem start. I assumed it was my modem, so had it replaced (same issue) and when going to my girlfriends house (same thing since she too has a 2Wire).

AT&T has come out to the house no less than 5 times and 'fix' something, but they do not even know what is causing it since it continues to happen. Any help woul dbe appreciated as it is extremely frustrating.

JG1234 you are awsome, have had dropped connections all week, bought but not used a new airport card, airport express and wifi usb adapter BUT your idea has worked for 4 hrs straight so far ususally have to restart and at times lion does not even pickup the airport card.

So why using a "static IP" solve the problem? Is it because when the Macbook goto sleep the 2wire does not recognize it and assigns a differnet IP address and causes the drop?

UPDATE: changing to a static IP address example given by JG1234 has worked without a drop for 16hrs.

Jim, I'm glad to hear the solution is working for you too. I have not had an issue since I made the change last September.

Well spoke too soon, macbook dropped connection once today. That would once in a roughly 8hr period. I am assuming this is a 2wire issue? I am ready to replace the airport card and use an airport express. what are your thought on this additional equipment?

I'm certainly no expert in setting up a wireless network, but I do have an Airport Extreme downstairs and an Airport Express upstairs to expand the network. Currently the Extreme is running in Bridge mode, so the IP addresses are assigned by the 2Wire. You could go into the 2Wire and turn off the Wireless signal to avoid connecting to it by mistake. Then you should be able to set up the Airport (Extreme or Express) so that it assigns the local IP addresses to your hardware.

It's worth a shot.

yup understand and exactly what I am planing on doing is totally turning off the 2wire wifi and use the express for wifi, funny never an issue with my hacked appletv...
