Q: Got receipt for an unauthorized purchase, please help!

Let's be clear, the only iDevice we own is a single iPHone 3GS:

Last night I received an invoice stating I downloaded a free App called Texas Poker from KAMAGAMES LTD. The app, which I have never downloaded (it isn't in my iTunes nor on my phone), has made two in-app purchases:

Texas Poker, 500k chips, Seller: KAMAGAMES LTD                                9.99

Texas Poker, 500k chips, Seller: KAMAGAMES LTD                                9.99

After taxes, this total invoice comes out to 22.76$, which is the total amount I had left in my account from a gift card I had redeemed a couple of months earlier.

I have never downloaded such an app, therefore these in-app purchases are impossible for me to have made. I reported this by e-mail to iTunes support but it's the weekend and I really want this settled ASAP.

Thank god I did not have a credit card linked to my account.

What can I do from this point on?

All of this follows my installing of an app called Paperboy:Special Delivery, which is free and does not allow for in-app purchases.

I do not gamble and NEVER play poker.

How can I get my money back from this illegal, unauthorized purchase?

Accounts can be hacked.  It happens.

You need to change your password immediately.

Other than that, reporting it to itunes support is all you can do.

I received a receipt for the exact same purchases.  My store credit was wiped out.  I do not own an iPhone, iPad or iTouch.  I only have an iPod and only one computer is authorized for purchasing from the iTunes store.  That computer is only accessed by me (no one else lives in my home).  I submitted an email support request and was told that my store credit will be re-instated.

mcfmullen.... yours and mine are not the only instances of this happening.  I see other messages on the discussion board saying the same thing.  It seems apparent that the Apple database has been hacked and Apple IDs and passwords are now being used for unauthorized "poker chip"  iTunes purchases.

I just had the exact same thing happen to me.  It happend the same day I updated my itunes account from the update notification in itunes.

Itunes refunded my money in 24 hours and deactivated my account.

The problem is most definitely on their end.  I have thoroughly scanned my computer and nothing on my end was compromised in any way.

Someone has hacked into apple (or someone inside) is doing this.  There are droves of complaints about it.

What I do - and I would advise everyone else to - is remove my credit card from iTunes between purchases. It's a bit of a nuisance having to put it in to make a purchase and then remove it again, but not half as much as having to deal with an unauthorised withdrawal.

I was actually billed for $35 worth of poker chips too. I don't even know how to play poker. Email sent to Apple and I'm just waiting now...

Same thing happened to me. I was charged about $25 -- wiped out my store credit. Also, my address associated with the apple ID was changed to Towsen MD. I've changed my password, but who knows if that is sufficient.

My address has also been changed to Towson, MD and when I tried to get on the discussion board to comment, it kept telling me that my user name was laurafromtowson!!  I've changed my password, but don't have confidence that my account is secure at all - fortunately I don't have a credit card attached, but did lose $60 of my son's Easter money overnight to a poker chip fanatic - I'm very angry!  This happened in December and thought we had it covered by changing our password so often that we can hardly remember it and making sure our security is always updated.  This is beyond upsetting to see so many people having the same issues - I also saw a huge thread on unauthorized purchases of $50 gift cards through credit cards that are linked to iTunes ... wish there was something that could be done to catch such criminals.    Any ideas?

Same thing happened to me a couple of days ago. Except I lost $154.88 in store credit. Shows up as Kamagames poker chips broken up into three separate purchases. One for $34.94 and the other two for $59.97 each. I don't even play poker. I changed my password and address as it had been changed to Towson, MD as well. I then emailed support. I really hope they refund my credit.

I got hit too. They almost completely wiped out my balance.  I wonder if that's their plan, so they don't run up charges on our credit cards?  Is it less of a crime that way?

I've sent apple email and called and no one can help.  It's ******** that you can't call them to resolve account issues!

ITunes support got back to me via email. They promised to refund the stolen amount. They also locked my account until I had completed the required security steps. Apple prides itself on the number of credit cards linked to iTunes accounts, but I have no intention to link my card again until I see credible signs that they have dealt with this type of fraud.

Add me to the list.  I added a gift card to my iTunes account on Thursday 5th and on Friday 6th pretty much the entire amount was used to buy poker chips from these same folks.  I have contacted iTunes and am awaiting a reply.  In the meantime I have changed my password and made sure my oither details are correct.

Another one to the list. I checked my iTunes today and lo and behold my iTunes pre paid gift card amount was down to $5. I checked my purchased history and someone bought an in-game 1.5M worth of this Texas Poker chips from Kamagames Ltd worth $24.99. I have no interest in Poker and have never bought that app!

So I quickly changed my password and lodged a report to Apple. Hope I get refunded soon.

Judging from the posts I have googled, there is a trend happening here. Either that app is fraudulent or Apple's store database got hacked...
