Can Someone Hack Your Mail Account Using iPhone Mail App? I'm Afraid.

No. Hackers are always trying to take over email accounts. Hotmail & Yahoo are prime targets because many users use weak passwords. A brute force attack usually hacks these accounts. Happens all the time. Maintain a strong password(letters, both upper & lower case, numbers and at least 9 random characters long), change every six months.

It's possible that the email wasn't from Yahoo at all, but was a "phishing" email to get you to give the actual sender your password. I hope you did not click any links in the email; if you did log on to your Yahoo account directly (NOT using an email link) and change your password immediately - if you can.

Someone did not get into your account. The email you recieved was fake, and if you clicked on the link in the email to reset your password, you just compromised that account. Had nothing todo with your phone.

Leaving the phone logged in is a security risk only if your phone is stolen. But, as has been said twice already, the email most likely was NOT from Yahoo, and was really a fake, a hoax, a scam (how may other ways can I say it?) If you clicked on a link in the email you have given away the keys to the kingdom.
