iTunes audio/video drifts out-of-sync

having to lower the sound specs actually upsets me, i have Logitec z906 5.1 surround sound so i can get the THQ sound quality. Somehow I dont think the lowered settings equal this, but the only way to get iTunes to not desync, is your solution.

So, at least I can watch movies now. Thank you.

My first time renting on iTunes and watched Thor, with ****** sound lag. I changed the sound from Dolby 5.1 down to 16 bit 96000 and the lag disappeared.

I just have the normal TV speakers so there was no noticable difference in quality.

Hi, I have tried everything on this post that people were kind enough to share (and I mean everything), however none of it has worked for me. I'm on windows 8, am not the most tech-savvy person there is but can comprehend how these possible solutoions help the problem, but I need something more as they are not permanent. Are there any other solutions? The sound lag is driving me insane and it's really embarrassing to have to keep stopping the movie/tv show in front of my friends so that the sound track/picture can catch up. If there are any more tips relating to this, please let me know! I have no idea if it's a windows 8 thing, a problem with quicktime, iTunes itself of the actual downloads from the store. You've know idea how confusing Game of Thrones is when you have no idea who is saying what.

After dealing with the iTunes audio/video sync issue for some years now I have discovered many different causes, so here are the main ones specific to my W7 64bit system.

1. If you have an ASUS motherboard and have installed "EPU-6 Engine", if you uninstall it, in most cases this will fix the iTunes audio/video sync issue.

2. If you use "Malwarebytes" for malware, if you right-click on it's taskbar icon and uncheck "Website Blocking", in some cases this will fix the iTunes audio/video sync issue.

3. Graphics card driver!!! To give you an example, I have a Radeon HD 7970 GPU (HD7970-3GD5) and since purchasing it there have been 5 driver updates. Out of those 5 drivers the only one that doesn't cause the iTunes audio/video sync issue is the oldest one "8.921.5"!

4. Any program you may have installed that runs in the taskbar that is designed to save energy, if it auto adjusts the CPU Voltage then this could be the cause of your iTunes audio/video sync issue.

5. The version of iTunes. In my case I can't upgrade iTunes to the latest version because it causes the iTunes audio/video sync issue with my graphics card driver. I can only use iTunes 10.7 with Radeon HD 7970 driver "8.921.5".

I've tried the solutions posted (thanks to all who contributed, I was ready to throw the computer at the wall) with varying degrees of success. I'm on a Windows 8.1 PC (unfortunately) with iTunes 11.4. When the problem first started, changing my audio settings to cd quality fixed the issue and everything was great for about a month, but it started back yesterday with a lot of additional audio skipping. After some digging in task manager, I realized an unscheduled system virus scan was running. I uninstalled the system resource hog McAfee and that solved the skipping and to a great extent the out of sync audio. It still lags but seems to be more sporadic instead of the entire time a video is playing and it's a much smaller lag. At this point it's tolerable but I'm still hoping for a complete fix. I'm tempted to just watch everything on my iPad via home sharing. Just out of curiosity, has anybody that uses a Mac had this problem?

I was having this problem for months as well. But I have just followed MR ME's advice and presto. working fine. The main thing that is important with this is checking in preferences what your sound bit and hertz rate are. Then making sure that whatever programme runs your audio sound settings is set to the same bit rate and hertz rate. It cleared it straight up for me.

Well that didn't quite work, but for the first time in ages I went through Quicktime to find the file and so far it's working.

We have this but I can't see an option for 'website blocking' (and it's not on our taskbar either)

It should read "system tray" not "taskbar". Check the system tray for the Malwarebytes icon. You'll find the system tray at the far right of the taskbar. The icon may be hidden, in which case click the little arrow to display the hidden system tray icons.

I just replace my AMD card with an NVIDIA. I haven't checked for sync issues yet but finally iTunes 5.1 surround audio works!
