Macbook Pro turned off after pluggin' an usb wire

Hello,

My macbook pro died after plug an usb iphone wire in (just the wire, the phone wasn't connected yet). I've just plug that wire on my macbook and the laptop suddenly died, doesn't want to turn on 😟.

When i plug the magsafe in the led is very weak (green) and after a while it changes to ambar and starts to blink.

I've tried to reset SMC, removed RAM slots, etc nothing worked my 1400€ babe is dead....

macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.3), ...

NO - DO NOT let the battery completely discharge.

I don't know why, but we get dozens of complaints from folks who have had their MacBook Pros 'die' after having plugged in an iPhone to charge/transfer files. If an SMC reset won't do the trick the only thing that I can suggest is taking the machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them fix the problem. And when they do, please let us know specifically what they did... I read of the problem often but, if an SMC does not work, very few solutions.

You might also want to post in the iPhone forum to see if any of the pros there know of a resurrection trick.

Hey I also had the same problem with my mac book pro late 2011 about a year ago. I was using a charger I bought at a gas station because the other one broke. Plugged it in and dead. Totally dead no lights no nothing. So I called tech support and talk with about 10 different helpers, even one or two "experts" no one could tell anything more than the mother board was fried. I stayed up all night researching and i finally came to a conclusion of opening up the back of my mac book pro and taking the battery out and putting it back in. As simple as that. I have never personaly seen this problem after it happened to me but it's worth a try. I hope this saves some purple a lot of time and money.

Even though I am sure that you solved the problem since it was 5 years ago, do this:

(1) pop out all of the screws on the bottom of the computer,

(2) make sure to discharge any static electricity,

(3) disconnect the internal battery cable and wait for 10 seconds,

(4) reconnect and press power button with bottom cover still removed,

(5) if works, re-attach bottom cover and re-insert screws

If not, let computer battery completely die, then attempt recharging.

Once computer is working again, do a PRAM reset and refrain from using the USB that caused the issue.

My daughter tried to plug her lightning cable from her ipod into a USB slot or other slot on my 2010 laptop, trying to hook up speakers, She's 12 and it was a random mistake. Same thing, computer cut out, would not start, no lights nothing. Took out battery, held restart for 4 minutes, and left for 20 minutes. Put it back together and worked. So, if your computer shorts out from electrical charge or other, try it.
