4.3.3 battery life

I've updated to 4.3.3 and battery life seems to be better then it was on 4.3.1 or 4.3.2. Just thought I'd put that out here. My iPhone doesn't get warm is standby anymore either. How's yours since the update?

I did do a full restore before...

and it didn't work...

and I had also done a fresh install and not an upgrade...

but without any result...

but then today I did it AGAIN...

and well, it's a bit better...

let's say it's not draining as much as it was...

but it's still not the same as in iOS 4.3.2.

and though it's working fine for MOST users, I'm not the only one to complain, check around, many are complaining...

and I find it pretty odd that after uploading battery life was reduced...

It could've been reduced a while before or a while later...

NOT exactly after being updated...

and one more thing, I find it pretty disturbing that ever since I owned an iPhone 2G till the iPhone 4, I did exactly 9 fresh installs instead of upgrades, and four of which were done during the last iOS 4.3.x upgrades, because of a bug or another... and three of these two were due to a battery issue (one time in 4.3.1 which fixed the battery issue COMPLETELY (along with the deleting the emails and readding them) and two times in 4.3.3)... #JustSaying...

May 8, 2011 4:20 PM in response to Eric Shawn2

yes Maybe, Very commong sense...

but I think I'll wait for the next upgrade before having it checked...

cos I have a feeling the next upgrade will completely fix this...

Plus, and let's be very clear...

in the changelog of 4.3.3 Apple doesn't state any battery bug fix...

it was only mentioned in the leaked BGR report a few days before, but once the upgrade was released, the changelog was all concerning the location issue...

Apple has become notorious for it's secrecy. That's why some updates have bug fixes that is never made official. They just seem to include it in. What's very "coincidental", and what many have suspected in the past, specifically when iOS 4 came out, which was just after the iP4 came out, a lot (not all) started experience battery drain after they updated to iOS 4. Like me. But when I upgraded to the the iP4, battery issue disappeared. Now iOS 5 is due to be released around the same time the iP5 is suppose to come out, which is this fall. People who weren't expereincing battery issues, are now experiencing battery issues after updating to 4.3.3. Just saying. In a sense it's like Apple's way of slowly phasing out old phones, and getting people to upgarde. Things that make you go hmmmmm. That's why I'm still on 4.1. Won't be updating until I upgrade to the iP5. I can wait not being able to use apps that require 4.2 or later, or using the new iOS's features for a few more months.

May 8, 2011 8:33 PM in response to Eric Shawn2

"Become notorious"? Guess you haven't dealt with Apple that long.

I know several people with the 3Gs, all but one of them running 4.3.3 (one is on 4.3.2). None of them has seen any great battery loss with the upgrades. One has seen a slight battery decline but they've had theirs since it came out and have lots of charge cycles.

If I had any products that I thought the manufacturer was writing upgrades that intentionally sabotaged the device I would not wait for a later upgrade, I would get rid of their products and never deal with them again. If you truly believe the speculative ******** you are posting here I would recommend you vote with your wallet and get something else.

Check back when iOS 5 is out, you'll see more threads about battery life. Actually if you search for older threads you will see the same complaints about 4.1.

May 8, 2011 11:50 PM in response to deggie

lol. Much longer than you think. Probably even longer than you. ;-) It's common knowledge about Apple's secrecy. Explain to me why they never make any official announcements with ALL bug fixes with every new update? Why they never confirm any new features with upcoming updates till the last minute, or the exact date they will be releasing new products till the last minute. Ya...it's called being secretive. Surprise you don't know about that. That's if you've been using Apple products for more than 10 years. Then you can say you've been using Apple products for a little less than half that I have. And if you read all the posts regarding battery issues, you'll also notice that your not the only one that uses the iPhone. That just because you haven't had any bad experiences (in this case battery life), that no one else is or should be. Battery issues have been plaguing users since iOS 4.0. Some, though not as many users as of late, have even complained about it in the later versions of iOS 3.x.x. I also never said they were sabotaging their products. I was merely mentioning the coincidence of the issues on a certain number of phones, in new updates just before an major iOS update and release of a new iPhone model. You should stop being a fan boy believing that Apple could do no wrong, and be a little more objective in your replies. And if a company was "sabotaging" their products so that it "encourages" their users to upgrade (and they usually do), you, me, and anyone else would NEVER know about it. Trust me, I've seen Apple change it's stripes oh so slightly and subtly just in the last 6 years. Doesn't make them bad, but it also doesn't make the same company just a few years ago. And if you've been following Apple as long as I have you'll notice the changes too. In the end it's business, and when it comes to business, neither your opinion or mine will matter, so long as they stay popular and make their money. That's no different than MS, BB, and Android. If you believe a product so much, that you refuse to see the cons, than that company has done it's job well. So you can take YOUR speculative ******** and keep it to yourself. lol And just like iOS 4.x.x runs slower on older iPhones (3G iPhones are being supported anymore either), iOS 5 will be no different for the 3GS and iP4. Just like iOS 4.x.x was made specifically for the iP4, and only made to be compatible with the 3G and 3GS, so shall be with iOS 5 with the iP5 and the iP4. It's technology. Mobile devices go obsolete much faster than computers.

today I did it AGAIN... and well, it's a bit better..

First you said that the full restore didn't work, and then you say that the full restore perhaps worked a bit after the second time?

I think that your current method of monitoring your battery situtation is what causes you this variation. If something in your phone's hardware would cause battery draining with the iOS 4.3.3, would not that happen before and after the restore, no? And would it not happen to all phones as the hardware is the same?

My only conclusion is that either you are imagining the difference in your battery life, or your phone is faulty and/or there is something wrong in your settings. What I would suggest is that you do what has mentioned here before, after the restore, calibrate your battery / turn off programs from the background / turn off bluetooth and wifi OR 3G / check what your battery life is when you go to sleep and then wake up in the morning and see how much you have left.

You lose 7% or less your phone and the iOS is ok, if you lose much more than that, take your phone into an apple repair.

4.3.3 though offered what I have been waiting for since sooo long ago (wireless router) it is in deed the most unstable iOS... and I'm sure the coming 5 or 4.4 will be very stable...

Now you are making alot of assumptions here I think. I would like to hear more from you about how the 4.3.3 iOS is the most unstable release yet?? My phone hasn't crashed even once since I upgaded to 4.3.3. How the heck is it the most unstable iOS release yet?

May 9, 2011 12:00 AM in response to matteo1234

I am still on 4.3.2 and I had big battery drain issues till about a few days ago. But randomly overnight my battery drain seems to have gone without any os updates. I now have my original two day battery life! I wish i could have tracked this to some change in the phone to help you guys, but all i can think of is that i update my apps regulary and probably some app was excessively draining the battery which has now been updated with a fix! so update all pending apps and i hope your problems get solved too!

PS: im NOT updating to 4.3.3 . Apple can track my location all they want,. but i cant risk having that teriible battery life again until the trade off is getting iOS5

May 9, 2011 12:42 AM in response to Eric Shawn2

People who weren't expereincing battery issues, are now experiencing battery issues after updating to 4.3.3. Just saying. In a sense it's like Apple's way of slowly phasing out old phones, and getting people to upgarde.

@Eric First of all, why am i getting such a good battery life on iOS 4.3.3, does it mean that there is something wrong in my phone that I am not affected by "Apple purposely reducing the battery life"??

In fact from all the people I know with iPhone 4 (I could count perhaps 5 of them) have upgraded to 4.3.3 and NONE of them have experienced any loss whatsoever on their battery life. This makes me think that perhaps the real issue here is the people and how they use their iPhone instead of the iOS upgrade and the phone?? Offcourse there are always people who do really have a faulty phones, and that's why they should get their phones checked at Apple repair instead of whining about evey single update in these forums.

And do you know why Apple doesn't release the Release Notes until the last minute before the iOS update? Because in this business, things do change. In every software update there are different changes that cannot be confirmed, until just before their release when they absolutely know which changes will be included.

How the heck would your "conspiracy theory" - Apple purposely reducing the battery life - do a good business for Apple, especially as the iPhone 5 is not even on the market yet??? Would that not push customers to go to alternative products such as Android phone instead?

I think you should cut the Apple BS crap here and now and stop confusing new users reading these posts. Perhaps you could go to post these in the 'above the top secret' forum instead and you might get some support for your theories there.

May 9, 2011 1:35 AM in response to Magic_Oskari

hi all,

since updating to 4.3.2 and 4.3.3 on my iphone 3GS I have experienced significant battery life reduction too.

The phone is even hot due to the battery use.

I suspect it is due to the phone continuously communicating with the mobile network it is connected to, ie: location updates.

I hope Apple reads our posts and reviews the changes they made to these updates so they can resolve the issue.

May 9, 2011 2:03 AM in response to Magic_Oskari

YES, as I said, and i repeat it...

I did a full restore two days ago and it changed nothing...

But when I did it again, battery life was "slightly" better...

Am I imagining it?

Yeah I guess so...

And I guess that guy that just came to me asking for directions has a cone head, green skin and only speaks Yiddish!!!

Oh PLEASE!!!

I LIVE with my iPhone and iPad and I do know when I lose two to three hours of battery life per charge...

May 9, 2011 2:21 AM in response to wathools

The phone is even hot due to the battery use.

@wathools if your phone is suddenly getting hot, it is a clear indication that there is somekind of problem related to some app in your phone (The phone is constantly using the processor, heating the phone and draining the battery). I highly recommend you do the following -> 1) Plug your phone into iTunes and do a backup 2) Unplug your phone, Plug your phone into iTunes Again -> Push the Restore button and do a Full Restore from the last Phone Backup. That should fix your problem.

May 9, 2011 3:20 AM in response to FletcherGull

i haven't read this whole thread so forgive me if this solution was already offered. i feel the battery problems are caused by an app. we have 2 iphone 4's in the house and 1 ipod touch 4g, all running 4.3.3 and none has a battery/ heating problem. now i don't know how many apps you have on your phone, but maybe you could try removing all the apps, then adding them one at a time to see when/if the phone starts getting hot.

May 9, 2011 4:10 AM in response to FletcherGull

Hi,

Actually, my iPhone 4 is pretty much filled with apps - mostly business, and productivity - Office Connect is one of the most used, along with email, which is all day, some texting, the camera, Facetime, and several others. I, too, practically live with my phone 24/7.

Upon reflection, I did have a problem with my iPhone where it became slow and unresponsive, and was caused by one of the social networking apps - I can't remember its name right now. It was easy to locate and after I removed it, all went back to normal.

I have to test all the blasted gadgets that come out, along these lines, and they can be a real pain. As I have mentioned many times, if your going to have a problem with your phone, it will likely be a misbehaving app, especially games, then social networking stuff. Very rarely will a production, or business app cause a problem.

I have only one game, a solitaire game, and that's used for periods of time waiting in doctors offices, etc. It's only been used a few times.

I don't know what to tell you, but if anything, battery run time went up a bit, but only slightly, if that. Our test iPhone 4, is used for testing anything that anyone wants to use at work, so we pretty much cull out apps that will be of concern. That phone has a dummy account on it, and it sits on my desk only for test purposes. The main problems are games, and social networking stuff, mainly, but there have been other categories, just not many. It's battery life is as always.

Maybe, if a bug does appear, it will be dealt with at some point, but there are only a relative few complaining about this. I can find no iOS bug, and I would, unless it was extremely subtle. I would look closer to home for a solution.

If you live in a low reception area, your phone will continually be trying to hit 3G, or WiFi to make a connection and then lose it, and try again - that will eat up your battery if it has to do that a lot. That I have seen, but not on my own phones. It was a client in the country where reception was minimal at best. Try playing around with your network settings, turning off/on 3G data, WiFi, etc.

I only brought up the "gun to the head" thing, because we get a lot of shills, and trollers here that just want to make trouble, and **** people off. I've tested all of the current Android phones, so I know how they are, they aren't bad in some ways, but terrible in others. The shills, and trollers are always pointing to the Android for a solution, which isn't a solution for the long run. There are dozens of models, all different as they put their own spin on the OS, making not all apps compatible, and they are badly fragmented - even Google is starting to put some restrictions on the problem. If Google takes it over, more like Apple, then there will be a better solution for the end users.

I'd start over with a fresh factory loading of the phone - your apps can all be reinstalled. Good Luck.

Cheers,

M.
