4.3.3 battery life

I've updated to 4.3.3 and battery life seems to be better then it was on 4.3.1 or 4.3.2. Just thought I'd put that out here. My iPhone doesn't get warm is standby anymore either. How's yours since the update?

@Oskari: LOL! I never said they did. I merely stated the history of issues with updates, coninciding with release of a new iPhone, and a major iOS. You take it as you will. And as a fan boy, you take it like someone just kicked you in the nuts. That's your problem. I'm merely stating facts. Fact, there are issues with every update. Fact, just because you haven't experienced them, doesn't mean they don't exist. Just read through the forums, here and anywhere else. Fact, people having issues have tried all the tips suggested here and on the web and still have no fix for their issues. How can you easily just dismiss this because YOU don't have issues. That's pretty arrogant AND ignorant. Explain this to me then, if you like to come across that you know everything. I mentioned already that there are people out there that have tried all tips and still no solution. That nothing was wrong with their phone prior to an update, yet right after the update, with no change in usage, no additional apps downloaded, no change to any settings, that their phone starts acting up? Your excuses are based change in usage and settings, or an app messing with the hardware. Yet I know many people who didn't do any of these things after an update and still found themselves with a wonky phone. Explain that to me and I'll humbly concede.

I know how business works and secrecy. But explain this to me, AFTER an update is released, why doesn't Apple chime in on the fixes they didn't announce prior? Or the simple fact that they have not once announced issues that have been plaguing users since iOS 4.0? You can't say they don't exist. This forum is riddled with people asking questions about them. Are you saying they are all delusional?

lol. Conspiracy theory. Just like a fan boy to play that card, for something they don't want to think about or let anyone talk about. There has always been issues with updates since the inception of the iPhone. Not so much then as it is now. There have been many complaints. And yes, many have decided to switch from the iPhone to another brand. But, there are over 50 million iPhone users in the world, Apple can afford to lose a few. That's like having $5000 dollars in your pocket and a handfull of pennies just fell out of your pocket. And fan boys like you will ALWAYS stick with them, no matter how bad it got. They know this. When the iP5 comes out, most people who are frustrated with how there current iPhone is working, will simply just upgrade. Voila, no more issues. They know this too. They have something that we want, and for people like you, can't live without. They know this too. Apple has one of the best marketing dept in the world. How do you think they got to where they are now? 25 years ago, they were an obscure company, that people thought was cute, but never took seriously. In the 90's they grew to have a small niche in the design industry, but people still thought they were too expensive and walked right by them. They even almost went under. Then jobs came back and slowly started to reinvent the company. Enter iPods. Without the iPod, Apple would not be where they are today. They'd still be making great computers, but even that would have just stayed within a certain group of users.

Apple was always about customer first. But realized that they had to get their hands dirty and fight with the big boys to start getting that edge and momentum. They realized that in order to succeed, you to play a little hardball. "To make an omlete, you have to break some eggs". They are still have one of the best customer satisfaction ratings out there. But they know, that they can't make everyone happy. They also know that, as I said, they are now in a position much like MS was 20 years ago. They have what people want, and desire. It's business. So no, I'm not about to say "ok", just because you fan boys say so. What I say is unbiased. I've been an Apple guy for years, and in the beginning, I was exactly like you guys. No one can ever say anything bad about Apple or they'd feel my wrath. Then I grew up, and understood how the world works. I still love Apple, I love my Mac, and as my iPhone is working now, I love my iPhone too. But that doesn't change my views. I tell people exactly how it is for some, and what it is. I give them inner view as well as the view outside. These are people spending hard earned money on an expensive product. They deserve to have ALL information, good AND bad, to make the right decision for themselves. Apple understands this too, and leaves it up to them to decide whether they want to buy an Apple product, or even switch. Telling them nothing is wrong, and that all people having issues are just crazy, is like being a used car salesman.

Freedom of speech buddy, freedom of speech. So instead of telling people your right and their wrong, why don't you be HELPFUL. And if you can't answer the question, don't get upset and start bashing people. Just say you don't know the answer, and leave it at that. You won't win any arguments from me, I've heard it all, and just like the rest of them, have never been able to answer my simple questions. Answer my questions and I'll concede. Because really, THAT's what I and everyone else that is curious want to know, but have yet to hear. And I guarantee you, when an answer is given, it WILL shut up everyone.

May 9, 2011 8:11 AM in response to Monty1945

@ Monty: Thank you for that. Very well thought out, unbiased, honest and not condescending. And I totally agree with you. If only more people were like you, others wouldn't feel like they just got slapped in the face for trying just trying to get their phone to work again.

I guess some people are too passionate about Apple, that they feel they need to pick a fight with those that have opposing views than they do. And they don't realize that as passionate as they are, so are others about their views. If they don't want the fire to get out of control, don't keep throwing gasoline in it, and leave it alone.

I just talk from my own personal experience. I have experienced battery loss in the past as well as two times the issue where iPhone suddenly heats up and loses battery very fast. The heating up issue is very well known and has been mentioned in the forums many times. It is caused by an app crashing in the background that causes either a memory leakage or constant use of the processor - either way restoring your phone will fix this issue.

..I have also stated many times that if any of these tips don't help you at all, just take your phone to an Apple Genius Bar and they will replace your battery (or if necessary even your iPhone).

why doesn't Apple chime in on the fixes they didn't announce prior? Or the simple fact that they have not once announced issues that have been plaguing users since iOS 4.0?

I don't really get you here - do you mean mean that you would demand Apple to announce every single problem individually in advance that they are going to fix in the next and following iOS updates in advance? Does this also mean that you expect Apple to fix every possible issue in one iOS update?

What in the world are you talking about here??? I hope you are not studying economics.

To be honest, comparing to your constant whining (which I find very odd anyway as at the same time you are stating that your phone is working fine..?) I think that I have been (or at least trying to be) helpful, giving people various techniques on how they might be able to solve these problems they are having, as well as to check wheter they really have a problem with their battery or not. What's your problem - I don't really know.

And just on record, I am not an apple fanboy. I couldn't care less what phone or computer you have - I have much more important things to think about in my life than that..

May 9, 2011 10:07 AM in response to Eric Shawn2

Sorry you misread my post, but I was agreeing with you, Apple is "secretive", but my point was this isn't a recent thing, they have always been this way. And I've seen no such change in the last 6 years, they are as close-mouthed as always and the are still customer oriented. I can give you anecdotal evidence of the latter or you can read the surveys on customer service.

No, you didn't use the word "sabotage" but your point was the same. If someone writes firmware that intentionally damages the performance of their device to get consumers to buy a new one that would be sabotage, as well as illegal. I doubt any company would take that risk, but if you believe Apple has done this I'm surprised you stay with their products. If you believe all businesses are committing such illegal acts I would suggest you seek counseling.

Is the label "fan boy" like calling someone a liberal? I've never said Apple never made mistakes (I even bought one, I had a Cube), nor that their firmware hasn't sometimes caused a segment of users a problem. Even versions of 2.x had reported battery issues. When 3.x came out I had a problem with echo while using it with my BMW. So did others, I called AppleCare and reported it, some people posted about it. I was contacted by engineers and discussed with them all the steps I had taken. In a later update the problem was fixed. Was it an annoyance? Yes. But such things happen with complex software. All I've ever suggested to you and others is to try the various steps suggested to fix problems and if they don't work either send in feedback with all pertinent information, call AppleCare, or go to a Genius Bar and report it. The more information Apple engineers get the faster they can isolate the problem.

And battery technology is the Achilles heel of all mobile devices. Hardware and software improvements are vastly exceeding what batteries can do. A breakthrough is needed.

May 9, 2011 11:44 AM in response to deggie

Apologies for the misunderstanding. Fan boy is like the Star Wars is better than Star Trek guys. lol Sometimes people come off like Oskari (who is still acting like a fan boy). Who just can't see to let things go. You understood what I my reply to you was, and replied back with explanation and not confrontational. That's all that anyone is looking for. An explanation, without the attitude. My bad for taking it as such, and thanks for keeping things civil. We are all here to help each other, without trying to make anyone feel bad. 🙂

I don't believe either way whether Apple "sabotages" their firmware to "encourage" people to upgrade. I merely make observations. And the observation I had just happened to seem conspiracy like. But if you do look at the situations, and how Apple hasn't chimed in once in some of the issues that still haven't been resolved since 4.0, one can't help but wonder why. It's not like it's impossible for them to say, we know about the battery issues, wifi issues, and random reboots. To date, we still aren't able to find the cause but are working on a solution. That would certainly go along way to put trust and confidence in people who enjoy using Apple products. After all, they made announcements to a fix for the 3G being laggy with 4.0, they made made an announcement with the changes to the ringtones in 4.3, and they made the announcement with the issue of the tracking data. No one can be blamed for making speculations about other issues they have been tight lipped on. That's the point I was trying to make. Some people just assume people who questions Apple with logical and common sense questions have a aluminum hat. lol

Peace!

May 9, 2011 11:59 AM in response to Magic_Oskari

Then why do you keep trying to prove me wrong. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to opinions. You take it or you leave it. Your just overly sensitive. Had you just let my opinion go instead of trying to put me in my place, we would not even be having this discussion.

You speak from experience as do I. But just because it works for you, doesn't mean it will work for others. In my experience with my previous 3GS iPhones, no tip worked for me. And I've tried all of them. After 3 replacements with no solutions Apple finally decided to just give me the iP5. Even they guys at the Genius bar were dumbfounded as to whey I was experiencing all my issues. My iP5 works now, but you don't see me judging anyone who's currently having issues, and telling them they are imagining things. Maybe you should eliminate that part, and say, "if none of these tips work for you, I don't know what to say. The only other thing I can think of is contact Apple and see if you can get a replacement. Good luck". No condescending remarks, no holier than thou attitude, no judging...and therefore no battles. The more you try to prove your point, the more your making something out of nothing. I'm just replying to your rebuttals against me. And in the beginning I wasn't looking for a rebutal. I was just giving information I felt people needed to have, to make a complete informed decision. One can't just have good news to make a decision.

I don't demand Apple mention ever single bug fix they do. Read my reply to Deggie, especially about Apple chiming in on issues. If you still can't figure out what I'm saying, I don't think you ever will. That's as plain as anyone can put it. Buy the way you STILL haven't answered my question in the previous post. You can turn blue in the face, and fingers cramped, until you actually answer my question, your just being a pain in the *** fan boy, that likes to hear himself and no one else.

Just give up trying convince people the battery issue is a crashed app IT ISNT!!!!!!

Since i upgraded to 4.3.2, I have reduced battery and also dropped calls is that to do with bad apps too?

My battery used to last at least 2 days, now its one and a half days, Dropped calls are that bad Im going to downgrade back to 4.2.1

Get a grip and accept people are having problems with these updates

May 9, 2011 2:30 PM in response to DavidK2010

I can store documents an spreadsheets on my iPhone, what is wrong with yours?

If you are talking about direct file management, no that can't be done without JBing your iPhone or there are other smartphones. If you truly want lots of user customization I would suggest you look at an Android phone (I prefer the HTC models), if you want more rigid control but full control of file management and MS files, documents, and spreadsheets try Windows Mobile 7 (no cut & paste yet, but it took awhile for the iPhone to get this feature). If you are really a heavy email user the phone for you is a BlackBerry, no one does email better than them and their email server and process uses far less battery.

May 9, 2011 6:40 PM in response to matteo1234

This has probably been said before but does anyone else notice how the battery stays at 100% the longest then the rest of the % don't last as long? I know this is a little off of the topic but I just never understood why. If I try unplugging my phone at 100% right before I go to bed and when I wake up, the battery shows like 98 or 97%. But if I go from like 80% from when I go to sleep and wake up it'll be at 75% when I wake up. Just thought I'd throw that out there

May 12, 2011 1:04 PM in response to matteo1234

For all those people who believe Battery and other issues caused by upgrades are all in our imaginations I upgraded to 4.3.2, battery didn't as long as it used to 1 - 1.5 days on 4.3.2, compared to 2 days + previously, I also had dropped calls constantly (call failed) even though I had good signal, rather than upgrading again to 4.3.3, I downgraded back to 4.2.1 (which worked fine), and my battery has gone back to 2 days +, and I have not had one dropped call...

So much for imagination... thou I'm sure someone will post that I'm imagining this also!!!

May 12, 2011 3:32 PM in response to DavidK2010

I've never said that anybody is imagining it. I've constantly repeated that it depends on the individual user and it is possible that something in the upgrades since version 1.0 could affect battery life. It is also why I've encouraged anyone seeing this problem to contact AppleCare, get a number assigned and provide them as much information as possible to so they can make changes (if necessary) in future upgrades.

Glad yours is working again under 4.2.1., but you are accepting a less secure version and, of course, Steve will always know where you are. You've never stated, did you contact Apple and report the problems you had with 4.3.2? Get a case number assigned.

I would suggest that you continue to stay at 4.2.1 (even though many people reported battery problems with that version also) and just leave it that way for the life of the iPhone. Something between 4.3.2 and your iPhone setup (did it also occur in 4.3?) obviously caused more processor use, or WiFi, or cell, and was draining your battery. What was it? Know one will ever know.

I think Ziatron is still at 3.0.1 and swears that was the best version ever. So if you have problems with 4.2.1 you might think about reverting back to that.

May 12, 2011 4:11 PM in response to deggie

I don't know if they do listen deggie. I've reported my issues since 4.0 (wifi and battery issues mainly), and there is still no fix, or comments from apple regarding these. I've even spoken to numerous Apple Care techs prior to being upgarded to an iP4. Some say they know about the issue and are working on it. Some say they've never heard of such claims. It's been almost a year since 4.0. As I've mentioned before, I think they just fix what they can and keep working on the others. But a simple note of pre-existing issues that haven't been fixed since 4.0, should at least be addressed. I don't think we will ever get one, so my advice to anyone having issues after trying all possible tips, is contact Apple Care, whether you still have a warranty or not. And try to get your device replaced. Hopefully the replacement won't be defective.
