Macbook Pro 2011 clamshell mode broken by latest software update?

After installing the latest MacBook Pro software update and EFI update through Software Update in the evening May 4, I am unable to enter clamshell mode any more. It used to work before. After waking up in the clamshell mode, the machine promptly goes back to sleep. On subsequent attempts to wake up the system, the laptop itself appears to wake up (at least the sleep light stops blinking) but the display does not even wake up. I can still work with external dsisplay with the lid open but this is highly annoying. I have reset the PRAM with no effect. The machine is a 2011 MBP, 15" inch, 2.2 GHz quad i7. Keyboard and mouse are wireless Microsoft desktop but the problem is also present with wired peripherals.

Does anyone else see this problem after installing the latest patch?

So, by now everyone but apple acknowleges the serious glitch on clamshell mode. I, like everyone else, want clamshell in lion to work the same way as clamshell in Leopard.

One more thing to the clamshell mess list is, once the lid is closed, the microphone will not work on ichat...

Will apple solve that or will I have to downgrade?

It is absutelly absurd that apple will not give their costumers the respect to address an issue that is that grave and will just pretend that is ok.

Well remember what happend when consumers were having receptions with the iphone 4? Apple told everyone that they were using the product wrong. Then they said all phones of that type have an inherit nature of being effected in the same way. I don't think Apple ever admitted that there was a flaw in the product. It would have been nice if they were just straight forward. If they keep this crap up, consumers aren't going be feeling any loyalty from Apple. Take care of the customer and everything within a company will fall into place... and vice versa.

Interesting. I do have the system fail to wake up every now and then when connected to Apple Display, but replugging Thunderbolt cable or power cable, as you suggest, normally wakes it up. Fortunately, I haven't seen the original issue, Mac going promptly back to sleep after waking up, for quite a while by now - that one was truly annoying.
