spring loaded dock items

There was a feature in OS 10.2 that I miss now that I've upgraded to 10.4.
In the past, icons added to the dock opperated with the same spring loaded features as folders (when enabled). I kept a copy of my home folder in the dock, and would drag my completed work files over the icon, wait for it to open, and then drop my doc into the appropriate sub-folder. It was a great little short cut, but doesn't seem to work on my new G5. Anyone know of a script to enable this feature?
Thanks.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

Spring Loaded folders in Mac OS X as far I've seen only works from the Finder window, and not on the Dock. I even have an iMac G4 with Mac OS X 10.2 on a single partition and tried dragging a text document to a folder on the Dock, and it did not jump open like it does in the Finder when I drag an icon in the Finder to a folder in 10.2 and 10.4. That's the action which is known as spring loading. Are you absolutely sure you had spring loaded folders in 10.2's Dock? One program I know offers some spring loaded capability is Drop Drawers.

You could always just make an alias of your Home folder on your desktop, and then drag files to there.

If you like me, however, you won't like that when you make an alias of your Home folder on your desktop it looks like a regular folder. You can fix this by control-clicking on the alias and click "Get Info". Do the same procedure on your Home folder. Then click the "house" in the Get Info window of your Home Folder. Command+C to copy it. Then click on the reg. folder icon in the Get Info window of the alias and Command+V. This will copy the icon of you Home folder to the alias. This seems like the best solution to your problem.
