Macbook Pro 13 2011 hdmi + TV = fail!

Greeting to the community,

I am facing an issue with a new macbook pro 13 (2011, i7, OSX 10.6.7) when i connect it with a Sony Bravia TV (KDL-40BX400). The miniDP-->hdmi adapter used is the one manufactured by Moshi. During the first 10 or so minutes it delivers perfect graphics and sound. Then all of a sudden, the colors are turned into their negative values (sort of). It's pretty much the same problem that the owners of apple TV have described here:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2600405

None of the following actions have helped:

1) firmware update of the TV

2) change of hdmi cables

3) change of the moshi hdmi adapter

4 tweak color profiles, calibration, resolutions, refresh rates….. you name it….

5) pram/nvram, smc reset

6) miniDP-->DVI doesn't deliver a signal at all!

7) EFI Update 2.1 and Software Update 1.4 DO NOT solve the issue (5/5/2011)

The TV is perfectly working and I 'd never had an issue with macbook alu late2008 via miniDP-->hdmi or miniDP-->dvi-->hdmi.

So the problem is known to exist for almost a year now (ATV) and has spread to the 2011 macbook pros. Good job indeed!!

I have the same problem with a macbookpro 15". Is not the TV, nor the DVI to HDMI adaptors. I know well is the MACBOOKPRO.

I bouught my mcpro three months ago and started doing that problem you mentioned. I took it to Apple Store and they changed the Logicboard. It kept doing the same thing. Finally the hard drive crashed, I took it to Apple Store for repair, and they gave me a new mcpro because they said I had the bad luck of a defective product. The new mcpro, didn't have the problem at the begining, but now after two months is doing the same thing as the other mcpro. I have a notebook (mac) and it works fine for streaming and watching my mac on my tv.

I have noticed that when I restart my computer it works fine for a while, but then again the same thing. I am sure is a problem of the intel processor or something of that sort. Does anyone knows the solution to this?

I have the same problem with a 40'' version of Sony KDL-32EX402 mentioned above. Yesterday while watching a movie it flipped colours after about an hour of watching. I changed the resolutions from the "screen settings" thingy back and forth and that solved the problem temporarily. It continued messing up the colours at an interval of between 10 to 20 minutes after that. Really frustrating.

Back at my place I have an old Samsung LE40R86 and I have absolutely no problems with the thunderbolt - HDMI connection.

I use the Moshi adapter with Lion installed.

After I installed Lion I also find that the connection between the MBP and TV isn't always easy to obtain. With the same Sony as above and a Panasonic plasma I have been strugling for tens of minutes to get a picture. I just felt the need to mention that as well.

Hoping for an update to solve this problem!

I have exactly the same problem. I have a thunderbolt macbook pro 15" and when I plug it to my Sony television. I have Lion installed and the issue is still there. I have tried changing the resolution, the color profile, the frequency, basically everything and nothing seems to help.

It seems to be a known issue, is anything being done about it?

My Macbook AND my iPhone 4 have the same annoying problem with my Sony Bravia television. All goes well, but after 15-20 minutes I'm having this greenish screen.

My girlfriend had a dell studio 15 with an HDMI port and also after 15-20 minutes the television screen started flashing on and of for proximately 10 seconds before everything went back to normal.

So a different problem but with the same intervals.

Is there no one with a working solution?

I too ran into the same problem after updating today: had the same problems in Snow Leopard, they got fixed in Lion (finally!) and returned with 10.7.2. It looks like I managed to fix the problem by copying a file from the Lion install that got removed in 10.7.2 (probably because there are multiple support topic of people whose Philips TV wasn't working at all in Lion, and they had to remove this specific file to get it to work!).

Long story short: if you have handshake problems, try the following (of course, at your own risk):

1. Download http://www.mediafire.com/?fdz29bgsg3zm653

2. Unarchive it

3. In the Finder, go to (using cmd-shift-G) the directory /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/

4. Place the entire directory you unarchived in step 2 (DisplayVendorID-410c) in the directory /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/

5. Reboot

It seems to be working for me, so I hope it is the same for you all!

Are there any solutions? I only see complaints when searching for this issue. I convereted our entire office to Mac and now have the embarasment of having to dig out an old dell and place in the conference room for a video call.

Also since i am overeas, calling apple only gets me the "we are closed" message.

PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS!! I have become the Apple evangalist in the ofice and this is very embasseing. digging out the Dell was admited defaet to all.

OK, I waited thirty minutes and then had to solve it myself.

Here is what worked.

Plugged in Power, don’t ask but this seemed to help me get at least to a display but still had the flickering.

Go to the system preferences, select Displays

Check the box “Show Displays in Menu Bar”

From there you should see your displays listed. Pick a resolution setting that stops the flickering.

You should now have a stable screen.

I did not select mirroring as this caused my display to not be as sharp. Instead you have to drag the content you want over to the monitor over. For video conference this was perfect as we can have the video app running on the LCD screen and then view other content on the MacBook on the conference table.

Hope this helps some, at least it solve my immediate problem. Just to be safe, keeping the Dell out of sight in a cabinet.

Cheers!
