Concering the recent privacy hype, can one shut off Faces and locations in iPhoto?

so how can i use iMovie on my ipad with out sharinf locations and all that?, it says i have to do it or i will not be able to even use the app i paid for, apple app, you say appple has nothing to do with this?

This doe not involve iPhoto in any way - for iMovie questions ask in the iMovie forum - for iPad question ask in te iPad forum - and you might want to rephase the question - it is not clear to me except that it does not involve iPhoto for the Mac

apple also forces many other developers to modify their apps so they have to turn on locations or the apps will NOT WORK, unless you know a work around i can not agree with you, maybe you do so why not explain, can you use imovie with out having to be forced to share locations of your own personal videos?

Again nothing to do with iPhoto for the Mac - maybe you don't klnow how to use the IOS apps - in settings you can disable locations services for any application - and location services is not uses unless you approve it - so I again have no idea what you are actually getting at but in any case this is not the place to address it - this is the place to address iPhoto questions

It's really, really simple. If you think your data is compromised in any way, don't use the apps, don't use the Internet and/or don't use the computer.

But stop peddling your ravings as some kind of fact.

iOS devices do not force users to share locations at all. Any time an app wants to use your location the OS asks you for permission. You can decline.

If you think that Apple is uploading thumbnails from your computer then where's the bandwidth this is using? Uploading 45,000 thumbnails is not trivial. People on dial-up or poor quality broadband would stop this is an instant. And why would Apple want thumbnails of my photos of doorknobs? What purpose would they have?

Apple does not make it impossible to delete anything. Not only can you delete everything you can overwrite the data too.

I fear your grasp of what went on in Congress is somewhat at odds with reality. For a start, what "millions of users" raised concerns to Congress? They were the quietest "millions" I never heard of.

So, while you may wish Larry to put his personal opinion aside, in return you're going to have to be truthful and cite supporting documentation for your ravings.

Bluntly, your first paragraph is gibberish. You second is pretty much gibberish too but there are a couple of things we can glean that are incorrect:

As I said above: If you believe this data is compromised, just don't add any. If there is no data there, no one can access it, right? How simple is that?

And if that's not good enough for you, just don't use iPhoto, and iPhone or anything else.

You need to learn how to use your phone.

What's a "smap network"? What does not matter? What has "picaso" to do with this?

But much more importantly, explain if you will why you claim to be so worried about this but you still use iPhoto and iPhones?

Picassa is an app made by Google. No I don't know very well why Congress did anything. I do note that you come on here and say things like Apple is uploading thumbnails of your Photos to their servers, but cannot produce a shred of proof - or even a reason why - they would do such a thing. When challenged on this you then simply don't respond but go off with another wildly inaccurate statement. Now you're on about an app that has nothing to do with Apple, which, like iPhoto, you are not required or forced to use. If you don't like the app, the company or its policies then don't use it. If you don't like the computer, the company or its policies, don't use it. But don't come on here posting acusations that you canot support. Don't come on here telling untruths, You're raving about security while still using these apps and devices that you claim are so insecure means you're either a troll or just not very wise. I can't make up my mind which it is.
