Hello guys,
Similar problem for me, since iPhone couldn't join my home Mode N wireless in my case during last 3 days.
Looks like i have come to some solution/conclusions after burning my brain.
My set-up:
Modem: Linksys WAG120-n (Only Bridge - DHCP Off)
Router: Apple Extreme - N mode @ 5GHz (Create Wireless Network + Router Mode: DHCP Only)
Peripherals: Apple Express (Join Wireless) + Time Capsule (Join Wireless)
iPhone 4: 5.0.1 (9A405), Modem Firmware: 04.11.08
During more than last year everything was working perfectly and my iPhone 4 (5.0.1) was joinning my wireless.
Suddenly some days ago, iPhone couldn't even locate my wireless at all.
* Keep in mind the mass Airport firmware update released some days ago. I did this update and i am afraid issues started after that moment.
I have started trying everything.
- When Extreme was set to n (b/g compatible mode), iPhone could locate & join my wireless.
- When Extreme was set to n, iPhone couldn't even locate it.
- When i shutted Extreme down, and enabled Linksys Wireless (n mode) with DHCP. iPhone could locate it & join it !!!
I will skip describing all iPhone steps i've done several times:
- Forget this network, - Turn WiFi Off, - Airplane mode on/off, - Shut down, - Static IP, - Renew Lease, etc etc
Finally and accidentally i discovered the following:
Apple Extreme -> Available Wireless Security :
i) for Radio Mode n only (5GHz or 2.4 GHz)
- WPA2 Personal
- WPA2 Enterprise
ii) for Radio Mode n (b/g compatible)
- WEP
- WPA/WPA2 Personal
- WPA2 Personal
- WPA/WPA2 Enterprise
- WPA2 Enterprise
iPhone
Available Wireless Security (delivered when select "Other Netwrok -> Security")
- WEP
- WPA
- WPA2
- WPA Enterprise
- WPA2 Enterprise
1) For Mode n only, my Extreme offers only WPA2 Personal, something that iPhone doesn't accept.
(As for - WPA2 Enterprise) i totally skip it, never used it, never understood all those settings.
Hard to say wether those was always iPhone's defaults or Extreme's poor Security options came after recent update.
But this is the reason my iPhone lost my home's wireless. Proof is that (after discovering this) my iPhone can join my N wireless if no Security is used, and this is why my iPhone could join Linksy's N mode (Linksys delivers all Security options that iPhone accepts, WPA2 mixed included)
My workaround of course reffers to Extreme users, but the lack of WPA2 Personal in iPhone, or the combination of Security you are using between your (any) Router & your iPhone may be the answer to some cases.
Good luck
