iPhone 4 cannot connect to home Wi-Fi

I have just had an Iphone 4s and am not very techno savvy so I was very upset when the phone would not connect to the Wi-Fi, knowing other devices were working ok, but I've just found your post and lo and behold it has worked. I'm feeling very pleased with myself now and Thanks must go to you, cheers.

After changing the screen on my iPhone 4S, wifi worked only 2 feet from the wifi router and any further it would not work. Finally I found the problem to be the wifi cable wasn't attached. The wifi cable gets hidden very easily under the frame/ circuits. It has to be pried out, the frame fitted and then the cable attached.

My daughter's 4S stopped connecting to WiFi. Apple replaced it with a new one, then that was stolen at University, reported to the Police and to Telecom NZ. It was password protected, and could not be seen on iCloud. (offline) Then someone purporting to be the purchaser of the phone had the cheek to call my daughter and asked her how to unlock the phone in exchange for cash. The Police suggested that she set up a meeting with the person in a location where security cameras were operating, and call the police when the meeting took place. She declined this risky suggestion so the Police blocked the IMEI. It does pay to call Apple for help, and it does pay to passsword protect your phone with a very short autolock time. The stolen phone is now a nice ornament. Bill

I had the same problem. My WiFi would be detected, it tried a lot of things, but still won't connect. This is what I did:

I connected the phone to iTunes and downloaded the latest iOS setup. This can be done by clicking the Restore buttun under the Summary tab.

Restore the OS through the phone once the download is complete.

It might so happen that the iOS on your device might have a corrupt file or something. Either ways, try it.

ALSO,

I accidentally keyed in the wrong passkey for my WiFi in the new iOS, the first time it was trying to connect. Maybe that could have worked and not this tiring process.

So, I urge you to first key in random letters instead of your actual passphrase and see what happens, if that doesn't work, try my tidious method.

I have tried uodating the IPhone but it is telling me that I have the latest edition 7.1.1

When I click on the Bluetooth icon on the computer (Windows 7) it takes me directly to Bluetooth File Transfer page.

When I go to devices and printers and click on Add a Device, it recognised ny printer (Kodak ESP1.2+3028) but cannot find my Iphone.

When I got to my Iphone Bluetooth is turned on and Devices are Discoverable but cannot find my laptop (Dell Inspriron 11z (1110)bands phone . Also the Blutooth icon is not lit.

When I try my husbands phone my laptop still does not recognise the device. Again Bluetooth is on but not lit.

Your second point regarding the password key, my wifi is working on both phones and laptop.

Sorry just realised I am in the wrong section My Wifi is fine but my Bluetooth is not

I inherited an iPhone4 recently and just had fibre internet installed at new house.

MacBook and iPad hooked into wifi fine, but not iPhone 4. It kept saying it couldn't. Aaargh!

After reading this very helpful forum:

I logged into my modem settings>security options>pre-shared key and used the pre-shared key password (which was shown in the password field) as the password when my iPhone 4 asked for wifi password.

I use WPA/WPA2-PSK security. I didn't need to go 'back' to WEP or do anything else.

iPhone4 hooked into wifi just fine by doing this.

my iPhone 4s has started today, it is just one week out of guarantee, and it won't allow me to connect to my home router, just constantly searches. It recognises my hub, just won't connect.

i Am bang up to date with my setting updates iOS 7.1.1 have been for a while with no problem until today.

both my wife's and my iPads are connecting fine. Driving me daft, any help please?

Similar symptoms as I had. Searching over and over and over and refusing… and aaargh! Other Mac devices just fine. So frustrating.

Clearly, my iPhone4 couldn't or wouldn't use the wifi login info from my iPhone3GS backup transfer, even though everything else transferred to the 4 without any issue.

This is what I did, via my laptop and my ISP toolbox page:

I logged into my modem settings>security options>pre-shared key and used the pre-shared key password (which was shown in the password field) as the password when my iPhone 4 asked for wifi password.

I use WPA/WPA2-PSK security. I didn't need to go 'back' to WEP or do anything else.

BTW, before entering pre-shared key password on the iPhone4 I closed all the apps, cleared all caches, turned phone off and on again etc. Whether that helped is anyone's guess. If your phone has the same issue as mine had, then try the above. If that doesn't work it must be another issue entirely. Good luck!

Dont ask me how, but I just turned my BT router off at the socket, and rebooted it.

the phone has now connected?

i have spent about a week trying to get mine to work and just figured it out. I had to input the wifi adress on the phone to the firewall of the router. go to settings,general, about, and if you scroll down you will see the wifi adress. its a series of numbers and letters. go to your desktop or lap top whichever drives the router and

dial up the 198.168. whatever for your network and you will be able to find the firewall. .

I too could not connect to my wi-fi. Usually restarting my iphone 4s works, but today it didn't. I took it outside of wi-fi range, just briefly & when I returned, it automatically connected.
